Title: A Primer on Oil Rig Entry-level Jobs

Like any other industry, oil rigs have their own career ladder that you must traverse, before you can make it big in this business. You were probably attracted to this industry in the first place because you have heard great stories about oil rig workers earning well over $100,000 a year working in oil rigs.

Some oil rig workers have specialized tasks and functions, and may even earn up to $300,000 per year working in hazardous areas while giving really long hours (80 plus hours per week is quite common on oil rigs).

Whatever your oil rig dreams may be, know that you will not be given huge servings of bacon just because you want it.

You have to earn that big paycheck, just like everybody else on the oil rig, and you really need to embody a genuine roughneck persona if you want to survive the physically and mentally challenging functions of a full time oil rig worker.

If you are still here, and none of those facts scared you away, then you represent the small slice of the population who isnt afraid to get tired and get their hands dirty digging up black gold. You are in luck, because today I am going to share with you entry-level jobs that you can apply for on oil rigs.

Getting into the industry, first, is the most important thing you can worry about career advancement later. You wont get any chance to advance your career in the oil and gas industry if you dont get in first! So, cinch your belt and clench your teeth, because you are going to smell black gold pretty soon!

1. Floorhand Though not exactly one of the most prestigious jobs on an oil rig, floorhands are still important members of the network because they fill the functions that other employees simply do not have time for. A floorhand performs manual tasks, such as cleaning, repairs, and maintenance onboard the oil rig. Many people see this position as a bit disappointing, but you have to realize that if you are able to step onto an oil rig as a floorhand, you can work hard to get a much better position later on by getting the right certification, licenses, and training. 2. Welder An oil rig welder needs to be familiar with how an oil rig works in the first place, so related experience will be a plus in the event that you want to apply as a rig welder. These folks can earn up to forty thousand dollars per year, which is not bad at all considering that you will get

allowances and free boarding while you are at the oil rig. 3. Steward If you like/dont mind cooking and cleaning up in the kitchen, the steward position just might be a good idea. Note that stewards are under the main cooks of the oil rig, so you have to work hard to perform your duties, because a higher authority will be supervising your work. A job in the kitchen might not sound like much, especially when the kitchen is on an oil rig, but trust me, the kitchen is just as important as every part of the network and, when it fails, that is a genuine catastrophe for oil rig workers who expect to get regular meals because their work is very physically demanding.
