Hazards and Its Effects

Hazard – is a condition where there is a threat to life, health, property and environment.

Types of Hazards1. Physical – this hazards often has human and natural elements.Ex. Earthquake, typhoons.

X-ray is another hazards from solar radiation.

2. Biological – originate from foreign organism identified with food. Diseases in humans come from in form of infection caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites.

3. Chemical - Agricultural and Commercial industry and also in housekeeping like disinfectants, air freshener etc.

4. Mechanical – involves machines or mechanical processes.

5. Ergonomic – this hazard harms the musculoskeletal system of a worker.

Safety RegulationsA. The Philippine Clean Air Act 1999

It is a constitutional law design to make sure that all Filipino have air is safe to breath in.

B. Waste Management Involves the collection, transport, processing, recycling or disposal of waste.

Types of Waste1. Solid Waste – Dry waste that are

considered useless. Ex. Plastic, cans, Styrofoam, etc.

2. Liquid Waste – include human waste, industrial waste, waste water, flood water. Ex. wastewater from ponds and chemical plants.

Biodegradable – waste that decomposeNon- biodegradable – waste that do not

decompose.

Hazardous Wastes – waste from commercial, industrial and agricultural activities. Ex. Paint, Insecticides, etc.

Non – hazardous wastes – safe substances. Ex. paper, cardboard, etc.

The Flow Process of Waste ManagementReduce- to lower the amount of waste.Reuse – to use again the discarded

item.Recycle – to use discarded materials to

make new product.Recovery – recovery useful waste to

Types of Personal Protective Equipment1. Dust mask – a flexible pad held over nose

and mouth by elastic straps. Serves as protection against dust.

2. Sunglasses – protection against harmful ultraviolet lights.

3. Safety eyewear – protection against flying debris.

4. Safety- toe protective footwear – protects the feet from falling objects.

5. Sturdy work shoes – to protect and comfort the feet while working.

6. Ordinary cold weather jacket – protection against weather.7. Long sleeves shirt – it is worn underneath a short sleeved shirt for warmth during cold weather.8. Long pants – a garment extending from

waist to ankle.9. Black belt – worn around the lower back

to provide support to the lumbar.10.Safety gloves – a hand protection against

chemical absorption, disinfectants, etc.

Earthquake and First AidEarthquake – shaking and vibrating of the

earth surface.First- aid – first aid officer is responsible for

giving first-aid treatment to injured victims.Qualities of a first-aid worker1. Vigilant – attentive and responsible2. Sympathetic – capacity to in the share

feelings of other.3. Resourceful – ability to find ways.4. Diplomatic – ability to deal w/ others w/o

offending them.
