Why Deportations?  

● There is a human cost to the policing of the immigration crisis:-that cost if often our communities who are targeted by these unjust policies

● Deportations are about fear: Instill fear in our communities. It’s not necessarily about deportations, but the fear of them

● US economy needs low-cost labor to survive. If the US got rid of all undocumented labor in the US, the economy would collapse.

Separation of families:-Of the undocumented people with children, 73% of them have U.S. born children-About 5.1 million children in 2009 had at least one parent who was an unauthorized immigrant,

● Deportation is one of the clearest manifestations of the broken immigration system

● -Lack of just immigration reform. The 2013 bill called for:-double the number of border security agents from 21,000 to 41,000-700 miles of a new fence across the border-ramp up Southern border security by $4.5 billion-maintain secure communities program-no age cap on DREAM act

● Deportations and border enforcement easier to fund and deal with than coming up with a bipartisan immigration reform.

● Obama needs to take executive action and put a halt to deportations!

AZ HUNGER STRIKE• Began YESTERDAY in front of Phoenix

ICE office. Ends March 3. Organized by Puente Human Rights Movement

• Joint effort from families on the outside and detainees in the inside risking their health and punishment from guards.

• Anselma’s story: She has been living in in the United States for 11 years. She and her husband have three children. Elder Lopez, her oldest son has been in Eloy Detention Center for over two years. For the last 2 years, Anselma has been organizing with Puente and advocating for the release of her son. Anselma has petitioned for the release of her son and fears that her son will die of he is sent back to Guatemala. “My son has been in detention for almost 3 years, I am fasting to bring him home. He should not spend another year in detention, his children and family need him home.”

“The purpose of this Hunger Strike is to demand the release and halt the unnecessary deportation of our loved ones. We also wish to expose the most important missing piece from this debate, the human cost caused by the extraction of members from our community.”

Two Million Too Many: National Day of Action Against Deportations

We say #Not1More! In 2013, 500 organizations, 30 Congresspeople and more than 15 direct actions that Shut Down ICE facilities across the country called on the President to halt deportations and stop the needless suffering, especially as Congress debates legalization.
