1. North Hertfordshire College To the centre for innovation and
beyond !
2. Main Aim Skills Expert Student Progression/Destination
Overall Value Added Maths & English and Digital Literacies
Flipping the Hierarchy of Outcomes The NHC way! We have been on a 5
year journey to fundamentally change the way we work
3. Where does elearning sit? As part of the programme of study
all courses must include elearning All course materials,
assessments and student development passports are housed on our
bespoke platform But workforce confidence is low and motivation is
affected by a perceived skills gap and sector wide time constraints
Some staff are still developing their use of 3D learning (our
platform) elearning is a step too far!
4. The journey.. BCFI Staff development programmes contain
bookable masterclasses that focus on tools, technology and
approaches Small cohorts of a full 2 day face to face programme for
blended delivery curriculum planning Workshops with industry
experts to practice skills and techniques Barriers to development
Not all staff book on to the right masterclasses Day job takes over
proposed plans that result from training Approach to follow up
impact and progress of training undertaken lacked focus Whole
organization issue with understanding the concept of elearning
5. The Journey . PCFI Three tier model developed to meet the
Sept 2015 target of 10% elearning Elearning promotional campaign
launched and all curriculum areas attend an introductory CFI
elearning session Whole organization training programme developed
online eNable is born! Barriers to development: Not all staff
completed the programme The programme took longer to complete than
we anticipated We didnt develop the programme for service areas
initially so there were some missed opportunities and some language
barriers Some people still think learning how to use digital tools
will solve their elearning problems
6. IMPACT and next steps Some staff felt the focus should have
been on the tools they could use this is down the issue with
understanding the concept of elearning and expecting the tools to
solve the problem The employer engagement session was a huge
success and has resulted in a series of live projects, work
experience opportunities and more sessions being planned for
Easter. An employer engagement networking site will be up and
running by the next session Service areas are moving their training
materials online, setting up pages and projects for both staff and
students, they want more! All teams will be delivering elearning
this term and know this will be reviewed by us and their peers
during Feb half term A student version of eNable is now being
developed by students and employers. All NHC students will complete
an online training programme of digital literacy skills prior to
starting face to face sessions
7. Activity: On each table you have a potential barrier to
develop elearning based on some we encountered during the eNable
process You have ten minutes to workshop as many solutions to your
barrier as you can We will then share our solutions with the whole
group
