Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)• We don’t have any AYP information yet• Since Illinois received a waiver from the Dept.

of Ed. this is to be the last year of AYP100% of students were to be at or above standards by 2015

• In future years, we will be measured by growth metrics…

Page 5: North Boone State of the Schools Presentation 8/2014

New Growth Targets• Will be unique to each school• Based upon reducing half of the percentage of students who are not

proficient by 2020

• Multiple Measure Index (MMI)– Outcomes (graduation rates)– Achievement in ELA and Math– Progress over time (Growth)– Context: school climate, course offerings and additional indicators (bilingual

students, vocational certification, etc.)

• Reportable subgroup size reduced from 45 to 30 students

Better Student Engagement“The use of todaysmeet resulted in the participation of 100% of the students. So many students are too shy to share aloud, but a discussion board gives them an opportunity to express themselves without feeling as self-conscious.”

“The discussion board then served as a quick-reference. I could quickly and easily see and address any misconceptions and provide reinforcement of how accurate the students were.”

Dana Rosenquist, 7th grade language arts teacher

Page 27: North Boone State of the Schools Presentation 8/2014

Some Other Good News• Joseph Mroczenski, Brandan Oates, and Tanner Synove will all be recognized as AP Scholars by

the College Board• The Class of 2014 included five college graduates who earned their associate’s degree as part

of the Running Start program • PGE One School One Book program has heard it will be underwritten by Wal-Mart • Andy's Books for Kids has selected PGE as a recipient again this year• North Boone Education Foundation has awarded several grants to our staff this fall:

– Multicultural classroom materials – Wykes– NBHS team building – Augustine– PGE smoothie service – Lough

• Belvidere Area Chamber of Commerce is donating graphing calculators and other school supplies for our students

• ISBE did approve the dissolution of the BCSEC without stipulations• Pre-School program was named in the Silver Circle of Quality

Page 28: North Boone State of the Schools Presentation 8/2014

Facilities Development• Focus on improving both active and passive

security measures in all school buildings– Better access control through keyless entry– More secure windows and doors– Looking to further modify entrances in some

schools to increase security• Working on a long range facilities plan

Page 29: North Boone State of the Schools Presentation 8/2014

Fiscal Issues• School funding is still very much “up in the air”• SB 16 could change the funding formulas• Income tax issue could significantly reduce funding• Property tax increases requiring voter approval would decimate most

school districts• Our tentative budget looks to be balanced for FY2015• Still working with the Capital Development Board to be reimbursed

for the state’s portion of NBHS, NBUE and PGE building projects from 2003-2008

• School construction sales tax will net us about $450K a year
