-A Forest Of Plenty- ALTHOUGH CULTIVATED FOOD such as corn and likely squash, contributed to the native
diet, the variety and abundance of useful plants in this forested region allowed the Early
Caddoan people to have a well balance food supply. The creek bottom below contains a large
variety of plants and shrubs that were needed for food, medicines and for making items such as
woven baskets and rope. Archaeologists believe the concentration of useful plants at this
location may reflect efforts by the Early Caddo to maintain a convenient source of selected
varieties.
