Hedgehogs

• Baby hedgehogs are called hoglets.

• New born hoglets are blind and deaf.

• The hoglets feed on their mothers milk for about six to seven weeks.

• Young hedgehogs leave their mother to live on their own when they are eating the same food as the adults.

• Hedgehogs like to live in open woodland where there are lots of places to hide.

• Slugs and snails are hedgehogs’ favourite food.

• Hedgehogs are one of only a few mammals to have spines.

• Spines cover their neck, back and sides.

• Spines provide great protection against predators.

• Some bats hibernate huddled together for warmth.
