A note from the editors

Dear Reader: We hope this newsletter serves the purpose of transforming students

into authors by publishing their work and becomes a tool to enhance motivation, communication and collaboration.

Teachers do not rewrite student's work published in this newsletter. Only communicative errors which cause the reader to misunderstand have been corrected, precisely because tolerating errors helps learners to communicate confidently and because producing errors is a natural and necessary phenomenon in language learning.

We believe writing for newsletters forces writers to focus on meaningful vocabulary, revise grammar, punctuation and spelling. Students view themselves in a different light after their work has been published. It "feels good". It strengthens self-esteem giving them self-confidence and a sense of achievement.

Thanks to all for your contributions. Sincerely yours,

Cecilia Pirrone, Gabriela Botello and Andrea Coscia

USING COMPARATIVES: RIDDLES / GUESS WHAT?

• They are better, cheaper, smaller and faster than 20 years ago. They are also more complete and have more devices connected nowadays. They are very useful for many of us both at work and at home.

• It’s more ecological, slower but healthier in safe places. I can listen to the radio. It has 2 wheels.

• It’s more comfortable, but the maintenance is expensive. It’s difficult to park in downtown. It’s private and has many options.

• LAST HOLIDAYS: GUESS WHO? OR GUESS WHERE??• I went to … last February with my family. We went there by car and stayed for ten

days in a small apartment near the center. The apartment was nice and quite cheap.

• During the day we played at the beach. We saw all the funny places, like Zacoa and The Castle. We put a coin in the clown’s hat. We took a lot of photos.

• At night we went to restaurants and had very good fish and white wine. Our favorite restaurant was in the port. We bought four t-shirts for my nephews and my wife bought a very expensive jacket.

• We had a nice time. This place is full of fun and has a great atmosphere and the sea food is wonderful. We only had one problem, the owner of the apartment wanted to increase the price of our stay.

WRITING LETTERSBy Marcela Heusdens & Agustín Soria

I’m fine! Monte Grande is a small city. The buildings are very old. There is a church in the centre of the city, five minutes from my flat. In the centre there are some bars, clubs and restaurants.I share a flat with my boyfriend. It’s in the avenue in front of a supermarket. The flat’s quite big. It’s got two bedrooms, there are lot of windows in it, it is very well-lit. My room’s got a bed, a big window and a tv but there isn’t a wardrobe. There is a sofa in the living room and some shelves with books. We eat here, watch tv and listen to music. In the smallest room I can study with friends or alone.See you soonMarcela.

In the living room there isn’t a bar, but there is a big window and a tv with a dvd player. There is a small tape recorder. There are three rooms for my children. My room is big. Describe a bad/good day you had last week. You can also describe the whole week.

Last Monday I started my day with English classes. Then, I went to my office to end this job day. After work I took my car to go home. In the trip I saw a very interesting car for sale. At eight o’clock I had an appointment with the dentist.

On Tuesday I had a bad day. I had problems with my car and arrived late to work. I had much work and I stayed more time. I didn’t have time to study English.

On Wednesday I bought a clock to my wife.Last Thursday I was very tired so I left work earlier and went home. On Friday I went to a meeting in the warehouse so I didn’t have time for lunch. In the weekend I had good days because I went to a barbecue, I was in the church and I

slept more time. By Agustin Soria

I arrived on time for work. I was in my work lot of time in the morning. I went to my mother's home in the afternoon and saw my cousins. I played with them all the time. We did casttles in the sand. After that we had a shower. At night I went to my flat to cook the dinner. On sunday I didn’t work and slept lot of time, then I went shopping with my boyfriend. Then he played in his computer while I saw a film.
