Spring is Here!
I would like to focus on a few things that we have been doing and what you all have been doing as well. Besides the planting of flowers and vegetables, many of you have been hard at work, doing what we in the career counseling world do every day. We read all the NAVADMIN’s and instructions, interpret and provide information to our Sailors, and keep abreast of the changes that affect our personnel every day. Your National Officers have been busy doing the same thing for the Navy Counselor Association, Inc. Rewriting the By Laws has been the most important thing we could have taken on this year and they are just about ready for the lawyer to review before I sign them. Many leaders from the JAG community, Senior Navy Counselor Leadership, Navy Personnel Command, Navy Total Force, Local Chapter Presidents and friends, have all helped with this very large project for which we are very appreciative. I hope you all read through them thoroughly. Each year after the Annual Event, it is the responsibility of the new officers to review the By Laws for updates and changes. Each NCA member has the right to make recommendations for change. Let’s live outside the box, break the paradigm and take the NCA into the Twenty teens. You/we are the future of the NCA. Lastly, I ask that you read the eligibility requirements for Annual membership, Lifetime member, Scholarship application, Career Counselor of the Year nominee, and requirements for becoming a National Officer. Each is in the By Laws and also linked in this newsletter for you to be sure that you completely understand the eligibility requirements. I look forward to seeing all of you in June. Hello All, As we draw closer to June, I would like to remind everyone to plan ahead. Please submit your travel request and register for the 22nd Annual National Navy Counselors Association, Inc., Professional Development and Training Symposium. My position as the National Vice President has proved to be very busy, yet very rewarding at the same time, as displayed through the release of several newsletters since being elected. My personal goal is and will always be to take care of Sailors! As Navy Leaders and Career Counselors this should be our number one priority!
As stated in every newsletter since Aug 2009, one of my primary duties as the NCA National Vice President is to be the principle liaison between the Local Chapter Presidents, the NCA National officers, and our NCA members. We currently have 11 local NCA chapters operating around the fleet with our newest chapter being Pensacola FL. We welcome Pensacola to the team!
In closing, I always must recognize the local chapter President's for taking care of Sailors in the Fleet. All 11 Chapters have been very active this year. The newest Chapter is planning a fund raising event for the NCA Scholarship. Please read all about their Chapter events and more of my comments later in this newsletter.

Wow!!! What an exciting year this has turned out to be… The National Officers have been busy trying to make this Year’s Professional Development and Training Symposium one of the best ever and we hope you will enjoy it while in Norfolk. As we look forward to the upcoming symposium, we want to also ensure that we are keeping you all updated with the latest information pertaining to the NCA and its members. Please visit this months edition of ‘Career Wise’ on our website at: www.usnca.org and also the message board below with messages from Local Chapters, the NCA Vice President, and various committees. Additionally, any correspondence that you would like to see in the news letter should be sent to : [email protected] Lastly, as our members transfer to different commands, we want to ensure that you still receive the news letter. If you plan to attend the Annual Navy Counselors Association Development and Training Symposium, please register for the event and reserve your hotel room with either the Marriott or Sheraton Hotel. Please notify any of the NCA national officers if there are complications regarding registration or making hotel reservations. Registration fees are utilized to cover expenses related to the production of the NCA Development and Training Symposium, such as audio/visual and facilities. Attendees can pay the registration fee via credit card (Visa or MasterCard only), Command Purchase Card or SF-182. Any command that wishes to use the purchase card may fill out the credit card authorization form on the NCA website. All completed credit card authorization forms and SF-182s can be scanned and emailed to the NCA treasurer at [email protected]. Please ensure to register online and include the registration number on the form or in the email prior to sending the payment. SF-182s and credit card authorization forms will be charged immediately. Receipts will be forwarded to the POC for the command and online registration will be updated to reflect as registration being ‘PAID’.

Naval Station Norfolk tour The world's largest naval station. Don't miss the bus tours conducted by Navy personnel. Pass historic homes from the 1907 Jamestown Exposition.
ODU Orchid Conservatory The Kaplan Orchid Conservatory greenhouse at Old Dominion University is new and open to the public. See the beautiful flowers.
Norfolk Botanical Garden 155 acres of colorful landscapes, unusual flowers, mature forests and seasonal plantings. Large collections of azaleas, camellias, roses and rhododendrons.

From: NCA Vice President (cont) To: NCA Local Chapters and everyone committed to aiding our association The Norfolk NCA Chapter continues to amaze me with their enthusiasm and dedication in their role as the host Chapter for this Year’s Training Event. NCCS Lara and NCCS Reaves’ leadership over the local committees and the National sub committees make it easy for me to concentrate on the many other responsibilities I have as the National Vice President.
I also want to thank all the Sailors who have volunteered their time to participate in these committees. The fund raising events, volunteering with the Special Olympics, manning the Ship’s Store and other events show how much one person and in this case, many people have made a difference in the lives of our fellow service members, their families and the communities we live in. I'm truly grateful to be surrounded by so many wonderful people. Thank you!

Good afternoon to all, First, I would like express my great appreciation to those that took the time out last month and assisted with the Shamrock marathon, I've heard nothing but great things! HOOYAH! The NCA Mid-Atlantic Region next volunteer opportunity will be at the March of Dimes, March for Babies Walk a Thon. Event will be at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on the 25th of April, start time will be 0700 till 1000. This is a great opportunity for all to take advantage of, and feel free to include your families as well. In the past two months we have touched thousands of lives with volunteering in such events as the Shamrock Marathon held at Virginia Beach and the Special Olympics at Virginia Wesleyan College. It has been a rewarding and unforgettable experience for all those who volunteered and it is certain that the NCA Mid-Atlantic region is making a difference in the community. Training days here in Hawaii have a great attendance and the Counselors are very excited to interact in the training. The material that we talk about is very exciting and our counselors are always engaged. Networking here has been awesome and camaraderie here is highly felt while preparing for fundraisers. April 27-28 CDTC will be offered, so far I have 28 Sailors signed up and all the area CCC’s are volunteering to facilitate every topic. ARTICLE VIII – NATIONAL OFFICERS Section I. The National Officers of the NCA shall be a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The National Officers shall be collectively known as the Executive Board. Election of National Officers will take place annually at the symposium for President and Vice President and every 2 years for Secretary and Treasurer. All nominated and/or elected officers must have a minimum of 2 years remaining on active duty at the time of nomination and/or election and not be in a deploying status for at least a year. All requirements must be met to run or be nominated as a National Officer. Note 1: All Four (4) National Officer Positions will be up for election at this Year’s Symposium. Please standby for specific requirements for the ‘Treasurers’ position in the upcoming news letter. Note 2: All newly elected Officers should plan to remain at the symposium an additional day for turnover.
