CARE International will be a global force and a partner of choice within a worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty. We will be known everywhere for our unshakable commitment to the dignity of people.

Our MissionCARE International’s mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. Drawing strength from our global diversity, resources and experience, we promote innovative solutions and are advocates for global responsibility. We facilitate lasting change by:

•Strengthening capacity for self-help;•Providing economic opportunity;•Delivering relief in emergencies;•Influencing policy decisions at all levels;•Addressing discrimination in all its forms.

Guided by the aspirations of local communities, we pursue our mission with both excellence and compassion because the people whom we serve deserve nothing less.

Why developing our future leaders is so important

Global Reality

• More competition to acquire talent within a limited pool of qualified staff

• The proliferation of “for profit” or government agencies that can afford to compensate higher than INGOs

• The world is becoming less secure• The work is significantly more complicated• Some areas of the world are becoming more nationalized• Some parts of the world may prefer not to work with

Americans/Westerners or the government may prohibit it

CARE and Emory: The History

• CARE and Emory have partnered for years– Internships– Foege Fellowships – Work Study– Adding to our employee population in

Atlanta and around the world– Emory professors have helped our staff

development– And we have helped in the classroom

So, we continue

• The Emory - CARE Connection for the MDP– 3 or 4 CARE Country Offices will host a

practicum– CARE employees will lecture– CARE will act as sounding board and

advisor when appropriate– CARE employees will apply for MDP
