My Vocabulary Wiki Project

A vocabulary unit to be taught by means of a 2.0 web tool (wiki). It is intended for first year´s tourism students from the University College of Caracas. This university offers a four-year Bachelor program in Tourism where English is mandatory.
Objective: To determine if by applying this web tool it is possible to compensate the lacks existing in the institution in terms of languages lab, books, amount of students per teacher, class-time, etc.
A wiki for a Tourism course of English as a foreign language
43 Spanish speakers Their ages go from 17 to 25 years and they have a basic knowledge of English from their previous high school studies.4 weeks out of the 16 weeks in total of the semester. a blended course.
Procedure•The first face to face class of the trimester the teacher will hand in the evaluation plan to the learners to be discussed and approved by all of them. •The teacher has to explain that it will be a blended course and its implications. •The teacher recommends asking for the permission to enter the wiki as soon as possible in order to start answering questions or doubts before the deadlines.•It is expected that lots of them have some troubles throughout the course, so the teacher has to be patient and prepared to deal with that situation. •Also the teacher has to take that as an experience and improve the design of the wiki for future courses, if major difficulties occur. •By the end of the course students have to give a feedback to the teacher in order to assess the effectiveness of the tool and the activities on it.
The artifactA wiki page on Pbworks with 12 pages with links in the sidebar with a detailed description of the steps to follow in every activity. they will also find useful videos that will help them with pronunciation and to deal with some technical issues like how to do a power point presentation or how even to create a video with a cell phone.
