MY TARGET AUDIENCE Initial Ideas

I would find it difficult to fit my target audience into any particular age category, seen as the age range within the football genre’s audience tends to be so wide spread. However after looking at the different people who are involved with social media groups related to Sunderland I have estimated that my target audience would be within the ages of around 15-50 years old. I have also noticed that the people who regularly attend Sunderland matches tend to typically be within this age range.

Age:

My product is going to be aimed at both male and female readers. Despite this, I think that the majority of readers will be male. This is due to common stereotype that males are more inclined to be interested in football than females. Also the genre of football is traditionally very male orientated. Nevertheless I want to ensure that my product also caters for female readers seen as, in modern day society, a lot more women are interested in football.

Gender:

Similar to the age section, it is difficult to find a particular occupational category for my target audience. As touched on in my pitch, I think that there will be a variety of people within the target audience. Some will be full time workers, others may be part time workers. There will be many full time students within the target audience as well as others who may still be in school. There will also be a handful of pensioners within. There also likely will be some readers who are unemployed.

Occupation

I believe that the majority of my readers will be more compelled towards a magazine that is rich in colour and images which are relevant to the genre at hand.I think that they would like to see a degree of text within the magazine, but not too much of it. I also think that they would prefer it if there weren’t too many adverts within the magazine, as this is not a common feature of football fanzines and it also may be seen as a major distraction to the genre at hand.
