Film Franchise Reboots
Franchise Reboots as Bankable Concepts: Why do we Continue to
Revisit Existing Narratives?
Films
Tim Burton: - ‘Batman’ (1989) - ‘Batman Returns’ (1992)Joel Schumacher:- ‘Batman Forever’(1995) - ‘Batman and Robin’ (1997)Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy:- Batman Begins (2005)- The Dark Knight (2008)- The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Focus of Research
With my research I’m going to look at the commercial success of the franchise reboots and why Hollywood keep coming back to them.Possible reason these concepts are used multiple times:- Technology- Unhappy with previous- Commercial success- Changing audience
Primary and Secondary Texts
My primary text will be ‘Batman Begins’ and ‘The Dark Knight’ looking at how these films gained such good acclaim with fans and identify difference between them and they older films of the Batman franchise.
My Secondary Texts would be the older films, as you use them as reference and how the Nolan Trilogy has built from them (or not). With reference to the original Batman Comics and TV show, and the upcoming ‘Batman vs Superman’.
How it Will Link to my Piece
For my piece I hope to recreate the gritty feeling that Nolan creates in his Batman Trilogy, while keeping the film in the superhero genre.
Or I will attempt to make my film like the older films, creating that now cheesy feeling to violence and narrative.
