Positives/Negatives Of Name

Core: The word CORE is easy to remember, quick and simple. It is also a very masculine word so its relates to the target audience for my magazine. The word core however sounds basic and plain and the audience might think that the magazine will also be basic and plain, it be interesting and boring.

Link: The word LINK is simple, quick and easy to say. It’s a connecting word and gives a bond between the magazine readers and the magazine its self. The word link sounds feminine and where its so short and used regularly it could be easy to forget.

Beats: The word BEATS relates to the rhythm of the music, as a musical term it’s a great way to get the target audience to know what magazine genre just by viewing the title. The Word Beats shows aggression and might put the reader off and may believe the magazine will be misleading which means loosing potential customers.

Source: The word SOURCE is a quite fresh and funky, its youthful and appeals to the target audience. Its also simple and is music related whilst giving the audience a visual picture. The Word source does not sound very professional and it seems a bit too simple. If someone said aloud without seeing the magazine it could be misleading as the reader may believe the magazine is a cookery magazine.

Planning: My Fonts

On my questionnaire I gave the audience the choice of four different fonts. They where:

• TAHOMA• ACCORD LIGHT SF• BASIC SANS• PLATINUM BEAT

The four I choose, where very masculine and bold, I decided I wanted my font to be like this as I believe this technique will appeal the most to the target audience. I decided on my top 3 fonts from the previous slides, they where: Platinum Beat, Bookman Old Style + Wide Latin. I Decided that as platinum beat was featured in my questionnaire and got very good feedback as you can see from the graph results. That this would be the font I use for my magazine Header.

Colour SchemesBlack And White

The classic colour scheme black and white, is simple yet formal. It gives a professional and classy look. Where its not very bold it allows you to focus on other things featured on the page/s.

Black And Blue

The colours black and blue is a calm, fresh colour. It’s a clean colour and as seen as being suttle. Its masculine yet welcoming, also its bold enough to be noticed but not too bold it looks forceful.

Black And Red

The colours black and red are commonly used in media text such as newspapers and magazine. Its very powerful strong colours. The red connotes rage and anger and this is seen as being masculine, ideal for the target audience.

Black And Yellow

The colours black and yellow are different. There not used very often in magazine and is quite unique. Its warm and welcoming . Its bold and stands and gives a hint of danger.

Magazine Layout Analysis

Page 8: My Planning powerpoint

I have decided this will be my final design . I like how the artist is the background. It look professional as this is commonly used In the media industry. It also allows the reader to focus more on the picture which I am hoping for. I decided to use platinum beat for the as it gives an insight to the magazine before the audience have opened the magazine. The font is quite bold and masculine which is ideal as it matches my target audience. I kept it quite simple as I want my artist to be the main attraction and I don’t want to over crowd the magazine making it look busy and messy. This will take away the high level I am aiming for and personally think It will lose readers.

Page 9: My Planning powerpoint

What I like about this front cover is that it looks quite fun. With the bubbly writing makes it look friendly and welcoming which I think attracts readers to the magazine. I also decided to keep it quite simple as I want it too keep the professional industry look. I think its important to not over crowd the front cover as it can be off putting and audience may not be attracted as it looks to busy. I think this layout is a good layout for the magazine but looks too young for the magazine audience I am targeting.

Page 10: My Planning powerpoint

This layout is different to many other magazine layouts. It is separated into two. With two artists on the front cover and split into two. I also gave this quite a bubbly font as I believe this its welcoming and youthful like the idea of two pictures. I decided to add quotes from either artists as its like a conflict or opinion. I decided not to use this layout as it seems to busy and does not look that professional. I think it targets a younger audience than I am aiming for and will once again lose potential readers.

Contents Page Analysis

Page 12: My Planning powerpoint

I have decided this will be my final layout. I like how the word “contents” is set out, its fun and not too serious. It also allows the reader to focus more on the picture which I am hoping for. I decided to use Script MT bold for the sub-headings as it gives it a smart and formal side as well as the “fun” heading. I kept it quite simple as I want my front page to be the main attraction and I don’t want to over crowd the magazine making it look busy and messy. This will take away the high level I am aiming for and personally think It will lose readers.

Page 13: My Planning powerpoint

I like this layout a lot as I like the two pictures together giving the reader a deeper insight of what’s featured in my magazine. The sub-headings are in columns to give a professional look and it allows the audience to quickly scan what they are looking for with out it all cramped together and looking untidy. I kept the heading simple to yet again keep the audience main focus on the images as they are my main attraction and I feel they will help bring attention to the target audience.

Page 14: My Planning powerpoint

This layout is constructed very well as its all lay out separately and is clear to view. I decided to put the header in a more fun way appealing more to my youthful audience. I kept the picture in the middle at the top to keep the attention focused there. I decided to put the subheading at the bottom as there not seen as the importance. I added a second picture so the page didn’t look empty, I think the second picture help make the magazine page look more realistic and professional.

Double Page Spreads

Page 16: My Planning powerpoint

I have decided to use this double page spread as I think it looks most realistic, professional and the overall presentation looks good. This double page spread is constructed very well as its all lay out separately and is clear to view. I decided to put the main picture of the left hand side, as that’s what the reader will look at I decided to have two other pictures featured with the interview questions, to make it look more fun and exciting. I have decided the first paragraph, quotes and interview questions will be in a bold text, so they stand out and so It looks clear.

I decided to ask my respondents their gender as I was able to analyse their responses with their sex. I am aiming for a male target audience so I took into consideration more

the male answers than the females.

Page 22: My Planning powerpoint

The master head is one of the most important factors of the front cover, as it can make or break the magazine. Platinum beat got the best response and I have decided to use

this on my magazine. I have decided to use Accord Light SF on my header for my double page spread as it got the second best feedback.

The colour scheme was a good question to ask as I believe it will help make my magazine more professional and realistic. I have decided to use a blue + black colour

scheme as It got the best results and also matches my idea of magazine of being welcoming, strong, bold and clear and relative to my target audience.

Interview Response

I had 10 interviews with all readers of hip hop magazines. I looked over all there feedback and gave the roughly same idea’s with fonts and what to include In a magazine. The interview appearing on the left is the interview that I thought was most effective and I decided to base my magazine roughly around this response. The person gave good, sensible answers where I could easily create what the responder wanted.
