Our Music Video Pitch

Our Music Video Pitch

By Megan and Sam

Our song and why we chose it

The song we chose is Ghost, by Halsey

We decided to use this song because it we both enjoy it. In addition the quick tempo and rhythm meant it would be a good song to edit to and we thought it would be interesting to work with. We also felt that it would appeal to a large audience due to its catchy rhythm, especially teenagers

The person we have chosen is Jess, whos stage name is Robyn.

The reason that we have chosen her is because we felt that her appearance identified with the innocence and naivety that we wanted to portray in the artists character.

We also wanted someone young who could relate to our main target audience; teenagers

Our target audience is teenagers, mainly females

Our song will appeal to them because its catchy, and its also about broken relationships and lost identity, which teenagers can relate to.

Our audience will be able to identify with our audience thus making the music video appealing to them.

Often music is focused around relationships, broken or happy, which makes our song similar to a lot of music, however some people do find this appealing, and the story is relatable to our target audience

Our artist is unique as she is a teenager and there arent many teenagers in the charts right now

Summary of our music video

The idea of the music video is that the artist, Robyn, has met a guy. Slowly the boy she is with starts to change her, gradually showing through small things like changing her hat or telling her not to eat a certain food. Eventually she becomes so different from her old self she feels lost. It eventually ends in the guy with a new girl. It gives the message that you shouldnt have to change for anyone. We felt it was a message that would hold meaning to teenagers, as they are at a stage where they may not know quite where they fit in. But the video gives the message that you should stay true to yourself, and not let anyone change you for their benefit.

Style of the music video

It has a mixture of both narrative and performance.

However we wanted the style to be more intimate in order create a rapport between the audience and the artist so that the message feels more personal. As such we decided to have a larger element of performance within it i.e. Robyn singing to the camera.

However for their to be a motivation and for it to make sense to the audience there has to be an element of narrative.

The genre of our music video is a mixture of both pop and indie and so this affected who our main influences were. Our research contained artists such as Hozier and P!NK. Who both may now be considered mainstream however, their music was and still is quite alternative, which is reflected in their music videos.

For example, P!NKs video for Try had a very indie sense to it which influenced our creative designs. Our first idea was going to have an element of paint and colour in, however it didnt work as well for this idea. So we incorporated different colours In our own way that worked with tone of our video, such as make up and costume.

We both researched different artists digipaks and concert posters.

Sam- I researched, TOP, Arctic monkeys, Beyonce and The Weeknd. Twenty one pilots and Arctic monkeys are indie and alternative so I wanted to see how their styles contrasted to more mainstream music videos and consider elements we could incorporate in our media project. In addition I chose artists which teenagers would listen to so I could find styles which our target audience could identify with.

Megan- I researched Taylor Swift, P!NK, Hozier and Katy Perry. The reason for researching these artists was because theyre genre of music links closely to the themes were considering and so I wanted to find what kind of styles that we should include in our project. In addition because our target audience is teenagers and predominantly females I chose artists which our audience probably would enjoy.

Our Unique Selling Point

The main focus of our idea is that a young girl has lost her identity and is struggling to know who she is and if she should change for this particular person. As such is a relatable topic for teenagers i.e. our target audience therefore the idea will appeal to them. Moreover, although there is a relationship in the video, which is seemingly stereotypical and clich, it links well with the motivation as to why the girl feels shes changing and adds narrative to the video so it makes sense.
