Music therapy help thousands of people every year. Drury University started a rock band that groups two generations together to sing a variety of different songs. Anything from Jackson 5 to Katy Perry.

• Hospitalized patients to reduce pain• Children who have autism to improve
communication capabilities• People who have Parkinson’s disease
to improve motor function
Brian Jantz, a music therapist at Boston’s Children Hospital, helps tumor patient, Yaneishka Trujillo, deal with anxiety about an upcoming X-ray. With a guitar, maraca and a drum, Jantz walked the 4 year old to the procedure. Through the use of music, Trujillo was able to calm down and receive the X-ray.

• 6,183 square-foot on-campus music therapy clinic
• A music therapist has to complete a six-month internship, earn at least a bachelor’s degree in music therapy and pass the national board certification exam to become an MT-BC– Sessions may also include student music
therapists who are working on clinical hours towards completing their bachelor’s degree

2013 Intergenerational Rock Band Outcomes
75% of the Matured Learners reported an increase in positive feelings toward both college student and rock music
72.2% of student participants reported an increase in positive feelings toward the Institute of Matured Learners participants
