Looking at Fractions in Pie Charts

Before we look at the different types of notes and rhythms, we take a quick look at some fractions

The whole pie represents the number 1

If we cut the pie down the middle (and give the rest away) we have half the pie left. This is the fraction

Now if we cut (divide) the rest of the pie into half again, what's left is the

fraction one quarter (1/4)

Cut the quarter piece in half again, and you are left with one eighth

(1/8)
