january 17, 2008 “B” LUNCH
“Lunch is a good length but would be more relaxing if it was longer. It’s nice that the janitors walk around with trash cans. They are very nice and polite. Food is good, so lunch is my favorite part of the day. I don’t like being dismissed in sections. I don’t think it helps anything. Having “B” lunch makes the day seem faster.”
lunchWhat do you think about lunch? How does it feel to have only 35 minutes a day to eat?

ROSEBUD JONES JANITOR “I love getting to know the students especially since my grandson attends the school and plays football here. Many of the students call me grandma. I’ve been here since the day the school opened, and I plan on being here until I retire.”
a FACE in the crowd:
in the BACKGROUNDAn addition to the cafe.In the past, outside seating wasn’t always a comfortable option. Either extreme sunlight and heat or bad weather, such as rain made it di!cult to enjoy lunch in the courtyard. Before the start of the school year, awnings were purchased by the school through the PTSA to relieve overcrowding in the cafeteria and allow eating in the open air. The Parent Teacher Student Association held a fund-raiser asking for donations to help create the awnings to protect students from weather-related elements.

in the BACKGROUNDA student “safe” spotA group of students from all walks of life meet in the SAFE o!ce during lunch as an alter-native to eating alone in the cafeteria. This time allowed stu-dents to talk with peer media-tors and seeking help in a way that is both private and anony-mous. It was also an opportu-nity to meet new people with di"erent perspectives. With a welcoming and relaxing atmo-sphere, the lunch bunch finds it easy to make friends and share their stories in a comfortable atmosphere. The SAFE o!ce is run by Ms. Molly Sidwell and Mr. Jeremy Bourst.

“The hardest part of manag-ing the athletic department is keeping everything and ev-eryone organized. Scheduling the sporting events as well as keeping them managed, the o!cials lined up, and keeping the finances straight can be challenging. Eligibility for play based on school absences or grades is also part of my daily
responsibilities. Olympia is home to many events for the community as well as regional and district playo"s. Much like a teacher student rela-tionship, I have to meet with parents and handle concerns, this is not the
best part of the job.”

For Ms. Betty Vail, the lab in room 619 was where she taught Physics Honors and AP Physics B. While students were in the cafeteria eating lunch with their friends, Vail, Ms. Cheryl Woods, Algebra II Honors and AP Calculus AB teacher, and Ms. Jean Gron-lund, Pre-Calculus teacher, met in this room and eat lunch together and talk about current events topics. The room also hosted the Physics Olympics, which took place on April 14 and 18, and is the home to the school’s Science National Honor Society chapter.

FASHION STATEMENT“I love carrying my Hobo bag to school because I can fit all of my school work in it and it works just as well as a backpack. I carry it so often because it’s black; therefore it matches with all of my outfits.”
