for ordering, presenting, and flow).
Multiple Choice
Is a form of assessment in which the students select the best possible
answer/s out of the choices from a list.
Constructing Multiple
Choice Items
1. Avoid unnecessarily
unfamiliar terminology.
2. Avoid vague qualitative modifiers such as many, large, much, small, old, and
important.
3. Avoid complex or Awkward word arrangements.
4. Avoid trick statements with some minor misleading word Or spelling anomaly.
5. Each item stem should be as short
as possible
6. Distracters should be equally
plausible and attractive.
7. All multiple choice options should be
grammatically consistent with the
stem.
8. Avoid stems that reveal the answer to another item.
9. Avoid alternatives that are
synonymous with, include or overlap
others.
10. Avoid use of unnecessary words or phrases, which are not
relevant to the problem.
11. Avoid extreme specificity
requirements in responses.
12. Use the "None of the above" option only
when the keyed answer is totally
correct.
13. Note that use of “all of the above”
may allow credit for partial knowledge.
