Read the general information about Moscow Monasteries and answer the questions:

1) What is a monastery?2) How does it usually look like?3) When was the majority of Moscow Monasteries found?4) Name the functions of the monasteries in medieval times and nowadays.5) Why were the monasteries closed and destroyed in XXth century?

Make an illustrated glossary.The words are: монастырь, лавра, колокольня, звонница, собор, храм,

часовня, алтарь, иконостас, ризница, паперть, трапезная, литургия.

- to translate the word in English,- to give a transcription of the word,- to give a definition of the word in English,- to write the words and definitions in alphabetical order,- to find illustrations

Evaluation:POOR - The task is done badly. There are a lot of mistakes. There are only pictures and no definitions.FAIR - The task is done partially. There are no pictures. Or there are more than 5 mistakes.GOOD - All the words are translated, the definitions are given and the pictures are found, but there are some (2-4) mistakes.EXCELLENT - Everything is done properly.

Find the adresses of the Monasteries and explain a foreigner

how to get there if this person is at the observation deck

on the Vorobievy Hills now.

Explain which kind of transport the person should use, How can he\she get to the nearest bus- or metro-station? How many stations\stops should the person cross? How long time will it take him\her to get there? If it is needed - explain how to make a change for another line of metro. The explanation should be clear!

2) Dress code for visitors no special dress code - 1 point

3) Is there a park or a garden on its territory or somewhere nearby? Are there any reconstructions on the territory? Is it possible to have a snack on the territory of a monastery?

4) Are there any museums or not? there is a museum to visit - 1 point

5) The reviews of the visitors. the reviews are positive - 1 point

Find a partner or organize a group of three, divide the task according to your interests and abilities, find out

the way of your cooperative work, analyze the information you've found and the way of its presenting,

arrange some progress discussions (probably it will be necessary to make a change of the tasks)

You must tell:

1. a name of the monastery

2. a date of its foundation

3. a brief history of it

· Was it closed, destroyed, burnt, reconstructed?

· Who of the famous people lived in it, how long and when?

4. an address (find out and compare - was it next to the centre or in the suburbs of Moscow then

and where is it now)

5. functions of the monastery in medieval times and nowadays

6. a description of the monastery

· architectural style,· colour, · material,· the number of buildings,· the quantity of monks or nuns,

· the presence of a museum, a park\a garden, a cemetery – its size, famous persons buried

7. a conclusion (an invitation to visit it)

You may create your web-project using any platform you like.

- make an easy navigation through your site ;

- think over the design of your project (the colour of the pages

mustn't be irritating, it must be comfortable to read the text, the

pictures are desirable but not more than 30, the presence of

videomaterial is desirable);

- point the links to the sites you've used;

- write the information about yourselves, to indicate your e-mail

adress, to name the school and e-adress of your school, so that

people who will read your project could connect with you
