WHAT IS A MODAL VERB?The modal verbs ( modal verbs ) are a special type of auxiliaries verbs amending or building upon the meaning of the main verb . In general , these verbs express ideas and ability , possibility , obligation , permission , prohibition, deduction , guess , request, will, desire , or even indicate the tone of the conversation (formal / informal ) . The modal verbs ( modal verbs ) can be also called modal auxiliaries.
I can eat five pizzas.
I can speak English.
VERB CAN
Usamos Can para indicar habilidade ou permissão
I could go with you.
I could drive if you like.
VERB COULD
Usamos Could para expressar possibilidade
The plane may arrive late.
May I have your number?
May I go home early today?
VERB MAY
Usamos Could para indicar possibilidade ou pedir
permissão.
I might win the lottery.
Be quiet, he might be asleep.
VERB MIGHT
Usamos might para expressar possibilidade.
I must go to work.
He must be crazy.
VERB MUST
Usamos must para expressar obrigação.
We shall go to France on holiday.
I shall drink some tea.
VERB SHALL
Usamos shall para indicar intenção.
You should eat more fruit.
I should go to bed earlier.

Usamos should para indicar recomendação ou conselho.
I will see you tomorrow.

Usamos will para indicar algo que vai acontecer no
futuro.
