Mock Ups Front Cover This is my front cover mock up. I have decided to have my artist represented as a current hip hop icon in the rap genre. He has the current representation that will be enable him to relate to the audience with the specific costume that he is wearing which conform with the conventions of rap, e.g. black hoodie and bandana. Also I have followed the codes and conventions with the layout of my magazine front cover as my masthead is the biggest and boldest text at the top of the page and I have featured buzz words such as exclusive which I hope to lure the audience in with.

Mock UpsFront Cover

This is my front cover mock up.

Mock UpsContents

On the other hand I have decided to challenge the common conventions in a rap contents page. I have done this as I feel I want to have a unique contents page to set my magazine apart from the common rap contents page.

I have been creative with the word ‘Contents’ like the magazine Vibe, in the way that it is in a microphone and has never been done before. The reason for this is because the magazine is called ‘Open Mic’ and the genre is rap so having a microphone on the page screaming at the audience would justify that this is a music magazine. Then to have the contents page to represent rap I have my artist have the common conventions in his costume which is jewellery, dark masculine baggy clothes and a backwards hat.

Mock UpsDouble Page Spread

I have based this mock up on the Vibe double page spread in my research task with the rapper NAS, in which he is placed on two thirds of the page allowing less text and more visuals.

I will also have a mid shot of the artist and the full face reveal because this would link in with the main sell line on the front cover.
