• Move to smartphones– Penetration – Australia 65%, UK 61%, USA 53%– Huge Surge of China – Jan 2012 around 50% of US adoption, Feb 2013 – overtook US

adoption– Brazil only at 36% – India only at 10%– Cheaper iPhone better news for developers, than Apple = more app users

• Growth in downloads– Gartner predicts there will be 310b app downloads in 2016– Most downloads will be Free – 288b– But paid downloads to grow 3x – 8.1b in 2013; 21.6b in 2016

• Growth in revenues– Apple has paid out over $5b in last 12 months, same amount as in 1st 4 years– Gartner predicts app store revenues of $24.5b in 2013 (includes advertising)– Gartner predicts estimated value of $74b in revenue from app stores in 2016– Paid-for downloads will contribute 45.2% of this revenue by 2016– In-app-purchase will account for 41% of this revenue by 2016
