SettingThis scene takes place in the hospital after Sarah wakes up from the accident. She is momentarily confused. This location reflects the theme of death and highlights Sarah loss. It also shows the audience the effects of the accident.

LightingThe scene starts with darkness and then is gradually lit up by candles. This is done to reflect Sarah waking up from her dream like state and showing the audience that Sarah will not get to see another one of her daughters birthdays.

Page 4: Mise en scene clip 3

LightingSarah gets out the bed and into the corridor which is lit with a green tinge. This is used to represent the confusion and mystery Sarah has. The colour suggests that there may be something lurking behind her. This is further shown when the lights begin to to turn of behind Sarah as she runs away eventually running into light and Beth’s arms which signifies safety.

Costume, Hair & Make UpProsthetics are used to give Sarah injuries from the accident making it appear more realistic to the audience. For the same reason Sarah is in a hospital gown to show that she has been inured but not to the fatality her family have been.

Acting & Movement Sarah runs erratically down the corridor as the lights turn off. This represents the fear she is feeling of what could be death coming after her. She then breaks down in breaks own whilst being held by Beth. This shows how upset she is after finding out about the death of her family.

PropsThe cake is a prop used to signify the daughter and the things Sarah will not be able to experience know that she is dead. There is also a heart beat monitor in Sarah room. This is used to show the audience that Sarah has survived but her family is dead as well as the lingering the theme of death.
