CONCLUSION • On the basis of definition provided here, though, we can end by
summarizing a few general points about MIS that differentiate them from other types of public sector information systems:
• Monitoring and control is central; the focus is therefore mainly on information
• about what has happened (or is happening) rather than, as with planning, what will happen.
• Reports are generally based on relatively simple analysis techniques.• MIS normally feed into some human decision making, based on their
reports; such decision making is usually structured or semi-structured.
• MIS are mainly targeted at operational and tactical management levels.• Unless custom-written, MIS are often based on a database system,
because of the• superior query and reporting capabilities of database management
system
