HOW MIRRORS ARE
MADE?
HISTORY
It is believed that in ancient, mirrors were made of
bronze and were used by the Egyptians, Greeks
and Romans. Then glass mirrors were originally
made in Venice in 1291. In the late seventeen
century, mirrors were made in Britain. Late, it
became an important industry in European and
American countries.
Nowadays, mirrors are used as toilet articles.
Millions of people have more of a mirror at home.
PROCESS
The process of making mirrors is so simple that you
can make one. First, a glass sheet is coated with
silver or aluminum with the aid of a chemical
process. In industrial production, the metal is
brought to a boil in special chambers and then
condensed on the glass sheet to form a perfect
finish cover. The back of the mirror is painted to
protect the metal layer from damage.
Second, you have the process of silver. Two
chemical solutions are made, one is silver nitrate,
ammonia and distilled water and the other has
Rochelle salts dissolved in the distilled water. Then
the solutions are mixed and as a result the liquid
silver is obtained. So, silver liquid is sprayed on the
glass sheet. This mixture should be poured over the
very clean glass, then the mixture will cool.
Finally, when the mirror is dry. it should be framed.
