Miguel de Cervantes was born in 1547.By 1570, Cervantes had enlisted as a soldier in the Spanish Navy Marines, in Naples, then a possession of the Spanish crown.

He went to the Battle of Lepanto. At the end of Lepanto he and his brother were prisioners and his family paid money to rescue them.

In 1607, he settled in Madrid, where he lived and worked until his death. He got married when he was 33.

Miguel de Cervantes received three bullets: two in the chest and one in the left arm. This shot disabled his left arm.

His masterpiece, Don Quixote, was published in 1605 when Miguel was 58.

Ten years later he finished the second part.

This book has been translated into more than 48 languages.

The final years of his life he wrote theatre, novel and poetry.

Cervantes died on 22 April 1616.

Alonso Quixano is a crazy man . He reads a lot of books about heroes and he thinks he is a heroic knight. Alonso also thinks he loves this princess named Dulcinea. The girl is Dulcinea, a girl in his town. He changes his name to Don Quixote, puts on an old armor, and goes out to find adventure.

Then, Don Quixote finds Sancho Panza to be his servant on his adventure. They go out and get in all sorts of trouble. Don Quixote mistakes windmills for big giants. Finally he realizes he is crazy and goes home.
