We shifted from just simply consumers to prosumers - highlight how collaborative we have become.

Old Media/Web 1.0:

Passive audience, controlled by the media 'Gods' , appointment to view, expensive, SEPARATE PLATFORMS, centralised, consumers had to schedule time for media which gave these people more dominance over people's lives, also needed huge equipment and expensive studios unlike today we can even use our phones, newspaper were enforcing propaganda where as social media like twitter today lets us all tweet our own opinions , less censorship.

New Media/Web 2.0: User generated, cross platform, inexpensive to producer, decentralised, globalisation and participatory culture, we are more engaged not -

passive. Now follows Tim Burner's Lee vision that everyone can be connected and creative. People are more 'folk' where they share everything and everyone is creative unlike before where people were like media elites and dictated everything. We are no longer audiences but now prosumers and everyone produces and consumes and shares.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------All of David's ideas were claimed in 2007 where he proposed 'Making is connecting‘

• The web was designed to be an international free network where we can produce and share knowledge together. He uses the lego model

to highlight the difference between web 1.0 and web 2.0. In Web 1.0 there separate lego gardens where people made their own individual content (this was shown by mini lego figures in their own houses with their own gardens. On the other hand.web 2.0 is more combined (all the lego figures shared one big lego garden and house) where different people create content together e.g wikipedia.

• Web 1.0 was designed to perform the most simple of tasks and was the first attempt at vast technology. However, in comparison web 2.0 is much more efficient and has made a big impact on how we communicate and use technology. The web has moved from being a broadcast medium to essentially a sandbox where we can share content as well as interact. Different pieces of technology have also began to converge together, i.e on your iphone if you take a selfie you can automatically tweet it - thus media today is more combined than ever.

• We shifted from just simply consumers to prosumers - highlight how collaborative we have become.

• David believes media consumption is now controlled by the consumers rather than the producers, for example, appoitment viewing has changed to more flexible platforms like being able to catch up on bbc iplayer - A consumer demand.
