1 – In the first stanza of the lyrics, It goes on to say ‘You’re falling apart’. This suggests that the person that is in their relationship is loosing their sanity, perhaps going insane. We know this because of the some of the hints in the lyrics such as ‘come back to me’, ‘we could run for miles’ and that all her games keep pushing him further away. It goes on to say that all the things she has done to herself was self inflicted and that if she continues to loose her mind, playing ‘games with him’, the relationship will be impossible to re-build. He says that she is playing games with him, which are supposed to be used for fun and enjoyment but these ‘games’ are having a negative effect on their relationship.

2 – In the second stanza, he says is telling her to come back to him, telling her that there is no reason not to. He also tells her that they should ‘Take the time to make everything alright’, saying that if they take their time, piece by piece, they can make the relationship work.

3 – In the third stanza, he says ‘Run, we could run for miles’. You need to be healthy in order to run for a long distance. He is using this sentence as a metaphor to describe that they can have a healthy relationship again but it will take time to make it happen. After this he asks her ‘Will you walk the wire?’, explaining to her that in order to succeed in having this healthy relationship once again, she must be willing to take risks.

4 – In the fourth stanza, he is trying to piece together why she has being ‘falling apart’. He is asking her questions such as ‘Where is your heart, have you lost all feeling’. He is trying to understand why she is falling apart and pushing him away. In the second to last line of the paragraph, he says that we’ll make a truce and that ‘there is nothing to prove’. He describes that they could make a healthy relationship once again and forget about the past, make a fresh new start. But then he says that she needs to get her head ‘out the clouds or be washed away by the rain’. This describes that her mind is everywhere and not concentrating on the things that matter to her most. If she doesn’t stop ignoring the important things around her, she will be ‘washed away’, loosing her mind and the people who care for her.

8 – In the second to last stanza (eighth), he tells her to ‘Come back to see. The light beyond the shade’. He is telling her to lighten up the dark areas within her mind and become sane once again, describing her loosing her mind as ‘the shade’.

THE ROADWe are the Ocean

Is there any themes within the music? There are themes in the music such as Love, as he is wanting to try and get back together. Mental Health, as the woman who is ‘falling apart’ is loosing her mind and cannot currently feel. However, there is also a theme of hope in the music as even though things are going bad, they are trying to get back together and have hope that this relationship will work, even with the bad things that have happened in their relationship.

Tone/Emotion within the songWhen listening to the song, he does sound both upset and angry at the same time, showing his feelings but also showing his anger throughout the lyrics. When singing it, he also sounds quite hopeful, there is ‘a lot of energy’ within his voice which you can detect, which means that this topic is upmost of importance to him. The song is quite mixed in happiness and sadness, as at the start of the of the song, it sounds quite dull and sad but after that, he sounds eager to make the relationship work and he is hopeful once again.

Narrative style that I could use with the songIt could explore the problems within relationships, and the impact of a unhealthy relationship and what affect it has on someone, like the woman within the lyrics that was loosing her mind and her sanity, that could no longer feel. But then when the music starts to kick in with the themes of hope and happiness, you could show this, unhealthy relationship trying to make things right. You could for example see them both running on a road, matching to the lyrics ‘We could run for miles’, showing that they are both healthy and fit to have a healthy relationship. These clips would show such things as communication between the two, anger, stress, frustration and more. All which a relationship entails at times.

Who might the Audience beI think the audience would age somewhere between 18-25. This is because people this age tend to have many relationships or tend to have one at this age. It would be in a way nostalgic for them, looking upon the past or even the present of their relationships.
