comprehension

about movies

Summative

Listening comprehension test,

that has 4 parts. In the first part,

Ss answer a T or F.

In the second part of the test, Ss

had to listen to a dialogue and

match items A to F with the

speakers 1 to 5.

In the third part of the test, Ss

listened to a woman talking, and

they need to answer A B or C

Finally Ss heard two friends

talking about movies. They had

to tick what was mention in the

listening.

Students are able to

talk and describe a

poster about their

favourite movie,

using vocabulary

learned in class,

comparative and

superlatives.

Summative

For this evaluation a rubric for

oral reports was used. This

rubric is used in middle school

(6th to 8th grade) and for high

school (1st medio to 4th medio).

This rubric has 8 different

aspects that includes

communication, pronunciation,

accuracy, content and

organization, introduction and

closure, body language and eye

contact, poise and voice and

finally manage of content and

timing.

Also this rubric has a score that

goes from 1 to 5 being 1 poor

and 5 very good. Ss talked

about their favorite film, and

they had to talk for 2 and ½

minutes.

The scoring instrument was

presented and explained in the

previous lesson, and was given

to the students once they

presented.

Ss are able to

complete a reading

comprehension

about movies, award

ceremonies,

vocabulary about

movies, comparative

and superlatives

Summative

The reading comprehension test

was done in 45 minutes. Some

Ss took a little bit more. The test

was divided in 5 different parts.

The first part Ss need to

complete with T or F, after

reading a text.

Then they have to complete

each sentence with a word from

the previous text

In the third part, Ss matched

some words from the box with

their definitions (vocabulary

about movies)

In the fourth and last part of the

the test, Ss read a text about 2

different actor. Then they

answer some questions.

Ss are able to create

a film review with the

structure learned in

class, including

comparative and

superlatives and

vocabulary about

films.

Summative

Ss wrote a film review about

their favorite film. This was a

class work, and they had 60

minutes to do this. When they

finished, the writings were

checked with a rubric used for

writing task in middle school

which includes 5 different items,

topic, organization, vocabulary

and spelling, grammar and

punctuation and neatness. This

rubric includes a score that goes

from 1 to 5.

The scoring instrument was

presented and explained in the

previous lesson, and was given

to the students once they

presented.

Ss are able to

complete a final test

that include all the

Summative (C2) In this final evaluation Ss had to

used all the things learned in

class, for example types of

TASK 2

To start with, it is important to mention that the content (topic and subtopics) are

taken from a book called Solutions pre intermediate, which is chosen by the

English department, thus the information that is selected and presented to the

students resembles that from the book. It is important to mention that most of

the activities of the book are mean to serve the whole class, and they were

divided into pre, while and post activities.

Assessment instruments prove to be useful. Moreover, since the scoring

instruments were presented and explained beforehand, students became more

aware of the issues they need to pay attention to wile giving their presentations.

When the task was completed, they had some time to ask questions about their

weakest points and all the observations that were made, and they were able to

recognize their errors or flaws. It is necessary to point out that not all students

completed the tasks, and some did not make use of the scoring instruments.

Among the factors that influenced the lesson plan, are students’ motivation, the

focus on certain skills required by the school, and extra requirements regarding

marks. It is important to mention that this school and students are very

competitive regarding marks, so they try to do their best in everything, that’s

why the scoring instruments where shown beforehand, so they can practice and

material checked in

class, movie types,

vocabulary about

movies, award

ceremonies,

comparative and

superlative and

topics from unit 5 like

present perfect,

shopping and

vocabulary related

with shopping.

movies, award ceremonies,

some grammar structures like

comparative and superlatives,

and some topics from unit 5.

The test is divided in 3 big parts

which are use of English,

listening comprehension and

reading comprehension.

produce a good piece of work. Also I tried to give them feedback when they

were doing class works and activities. This was a very difficult class to work

with, some of the ideas and activities for extra points where not able to be done.

Regarding students with special needs, this school does not have a special

program or evaluations for kids with learning difficulties, so test and activities

were the same for all students.

Regarding to the results, since I start my professional practicum, there was a

variation in marks. When I was there, they had 4 summative evaluations

regarding each skill (listening, speaking, writing and reading) and the last

evaluation was the final test, which included 3 of the 4 skills (no speaking part)

If we compare the listening and reading tests, the results are the following:

The results are different regarding receptive and productive skills. They were

higher in the speaking and writing, because for ss these are the easier skills,

which they have been working with since they start school. The marks regarding

listening and reading where not as good as the other ones, because Ss were

not able to concentrate when they were doing this test, some students were

talking and not paying attention to the reading and listening, which affect their

marks.

In the final test, marks were weaker in comparison with the other tests. This was

because Ss were speaking, not paying attention and not interested in the

classes. Also we missed a lot of classes because of the anniversary week, the

arts, science and math week. And also with the teachers day, which make

students forget some of the topics and things that we were studding in class.

TASK 3

As a final reflection, it can be said that students were able to learned everything

that was planed, but of course some issues were arose during the revision of

the unit. For example we missed a lot of classes because of the anniversary,

teachers day assembly, arts week assembly, etc. This make students feel a

little bit lost when we had to meet the following week. Also many students were

absent the week that comparative and superlative was explained, as a

consequence they struggle and did not feel as confident as the rest of the class.

Another factor that made the evaluation difficult was the fact that the second

semester, students are aware of the little time they have at the school, hence

the students begun to be more talkative and distracted

Also in most of the classes it was hard to explain and make students

understand the instructions because most of the students were talking. For this I

try apply some material for classroom management, and they have chart with

stickers, if they do good, they have stickers, if not, stickers will be removed, If

they have a total of 40 stickers they will have a price.

Also a blog was created so everything from the unit was upload to that blog,

and a class email was created so they can share questions, ask doubts and

some day’s I stay a little bit longer so I could offer them guidance and check

their work.
