MAGGIE Maggie was 16 months younger than

Mary and she was involved in the early teaching activities of the MacKillop girls.

JOHN John was three years younger than Mary.

His first job was at Swanston Street Railway Station in Melbourne. In 1862,

when he was 17, he went with his father to

the New Zealand goldfields. From 1862 he appears to have been a tradesman, a

carpenter, and a builder with ambitions to become an architect.

ALEXANDER Alexander or “our little Alick” as Mary

called him, was Mary’s baby brother. He died

at eleven months of age, when Mary was five.

ANNIE Due to family problems, Annie spent a

good deal of her childhood with relatives.

Annie was musical. She taught the piano and was a teacher with Mary at the school

in Portland. She was a lifelong companion to Mary.

PETER Peter was the youngest of the MacKillop

children. He studied with the Jesuits at Sevenhill. In 1875 he developed heart disease. He

left Sevenhill, and became engaged to a young lady, but it was not long before

his illness became more serious.
