Things I've learned as a mentor...
* Be patient
* Don't assume someone already knows the information
* Make sure student understands procedures when filling out FASFA, scholarships, and other forms
* Give the student 100% attention when helping them, they notice when your distracted
* Encourage the students to get all of their paperwork done needed for the universities their attending
*Build a relationship with the students
Working as a team...
* Has been an wonderful experience
* I made new friends that I can depend on
* We learned to communicate with one another on the recent updates or news
* Work as a team when assisting the students that come into the Go-Center
* Help each other when one mentor doesn't know the answer to a question
* We all work together when preparing for an activity or event in order for it to be a success
Benefits of being a mentor...
* Help students make the transition from high school into the university
* Educate students on different options they have for a higher education level
* Encourage students to take advantage of opportunities that are available for them
