Circulation figures

• From looking at the circulation figures it is clear that more people buy TV choice magazine than Inside soap Magazine.

• I think this could be due to the considerable price difference as TV Choice Magazine is £1.15 cheaper than inside soap.

• Also soaps are aimed at the working class therefore the cheaper priced magazine is more appealing to them.

Stereotypically it is working class who watch soap operas and therefore buy soap magazines so the Socio-Economic Needs would be people classed in C2,D and E

Mind Map - Conclusion

Out of the three mastheads ideas that I had I have chosen to call my magazine ‘TV revealed’ because I like the connotations that ‘revealed’ has (secrets, exposed) and I think that these connotations fit well with the genre of soap operas. Next I will purchase a copy of ‘TV Choice’ as I think this magazine will give me the inspiration for my production as they are both of a similar sub-genre that I would like to replicate the codes & conventions for. Being able to see a hard copy of a soap magazine will help me to see the way that they are set out. My magazine will cost ‘55p’ to compete with other soap magazines also it needs to be a reasonable price to appeal to the working class target audience of soap operas. It will also need to be a reasonable price as it is a weekly magazine and therefore should not cost to much for working class people to buy every week. The language of my magazine will be informal as the magazine has a gossip/ secrets feel to it.I will look on the website ‘DAFONTS’ and look for and download a suitable font to use for my magazine masthead. I also need to take photos for the front cover and organize props and costumes for the characters and story lines I will be using. The main headline I have chosen will be ‘Abducted – but whose taken Holly?’ with a puff to go along side it highlighting ‘The Wells’ is a ‘NEW’ soap and is ‘coming soon to BBC2’.The coverline's I will use will be: EastEnders- ‘Linda’s baby trauma’ Coronation street – ‘Peter’s troubling trial’ I will use Photoshop software to create my final product as it gives a professional look to the magazine and you are able to edit images and text to create a professional and aesthetically pleasing magazine front cover.

Page 7: Magazine Mind Map and Hand Drawn Drafts

The main headline will be white with a black outline as the colour white has connotations of virginity and purity which links to the story of an ‘innocent’ child being kidnapped

The colour purple has connotations of power and therefore I have chosen this colour for ‘Peters troubling trial’ as his fate is in someone else's hands. The image will be a mid two shot of Peter and the Judge standing behind him.

The price of the magazine will be 55p in order to compete with other soap magazines but also to appeal to the target audience of soap opera’s which is the working class and therefore needs to be an affordable price to weekly consumers.

Date of magazine is important for Maslows ‘survivors’ as they like routine and need to know the date of the magazine to make sure they are getting the correct information

The puff will highlight that the main image and headline is a ‘NEW!’ soap opera that is ‘coming soon to BBC2’. The colour will be yellow as it is bright and attracts attention.

I will use the other soaps logos next to their cover lines as it makes it clear to the consumer that the magazine covers a range of TV programmes and also makes it clear to tell what cover line is for what soap.

I have chosen the colour yellow as it is associated with babies , also I have used the colour yellow to show irony as yellow also has connotations of happiness however Linda is far from happy. The image will be a mid close up of Linder either crying or showing distress and over her shoulder Dean will be smirking.

The image will be a long shot of Patrick on the bonnet of a car having been knocked down however the driver of the car will be unclear. The cover line will be written in RED to give the connotations of danger. The rhetorical question is intended to get the consumer interested and therefore buy the magazine.

The masthead ‘TV Revealed’ will be the colour red because red stands out and is eye catching also red has connotations of passion, love, lust, danger, which reflect what goes on in soap operas.

As the magazine will be promoting the NEW soap opera ‘The Wells’ I will include the second story line . The image will over lap onto the main image to show that they are part of the same soap opera .The image will be a long shot of the character walking into a house.

I will also include a header bar which will be a yellow background and blue and pink text. This will be eye catching and the ‘2 weeks revealed’ will make the consumer want to buy

Page 8: Magazine Mind Map and Hand Drawn Drafts

The puff will be orange and have the price of the magazine . Which will be 55p to appeal to the soap opera target audience of the working class as the magazine needs to be affordable as a weekly magazine.

Date is important so that the consumer knows they are buying the correct information to correspond with what's on TV that week.

The image will be a two in mid shot of ‘peter’ wearing white to symbolize his innocence and then the judge standing next to him.The cover line will be written in purple which has connotations of power giving the representation that peters life is in someone else's hands.

The main image will be a two in mid shot. The highlight will be the little girls facial expression as she will look scared or even have a tear on her face. The person behind her will have a hoody covering half his face so it is not clear who the kidnapper is.

The main headline will be white with a red outline. The white has connotations of virginity and purity symbolizing the child's innocence and the red highlights that she is in danger.

The image will be a mid shot of Linda her facial expression will be shocked and worried. The cover line will be the colour yellow denote irony as yellow is a happy colour and Linda is not happy.

Also in yellow to make it stand out I will include information that the soap is ‘NEW TO BBC2’

I will include the idents of the soaps to make it clear to the consumer what story is for what magazine.

The mast head would be in a square box the text would be white and the background will be red as this will stand out to the audience and therefore create brand identity.
