Rear Panel

• Power in• Switches for main power & 48v Phantom• XLR outputs, line out or attenuated (mic level)

Control Room Outputs

• Same content as headphone output, but at line level for feeding an amplifier/speaker system in the control room.

Alt 3 & 4 Outputs

• When channel strip is MUTED, audio is re-routed to these outputs.

• Best for set ‘em and forget ‘em tracks.• Enables 4-track mixing on a 2-track panel, but

limited metering capability.• Good for 2 cue tracks plus 2 program.

Channel Inserts

• Interrupts signal flow.• Allows input signal to exit the Mackie and be

processed externally, then re-input back into the signal flow. Example: echo device.

• When ¼-inch mono plug is inserted only to first click, it becomes a pre-fader Direct Out while still functioning as normal mixer.

Stereo Pair Line Inputs

Aux Sends

• Pre-Fader: independent of fader operation• Like having a separate mixer on board

• Post-Fader: based on your fader settings, • open fader=volume; closed fader=mute

Audio to Boom Operator

• Must be post-fader so Boom Op hears mics in play.• Aux Master serves as private volume control• Individual Aux controls allow you to dial out

distracting audio, such as Tone Generator, SFX, or laugh tracks.

• Wig-wag the Aux Send to alert Boom Op.

Headphone Monitoring

• Control Room fader controls headphones & control room output level

• Select Main Mix as source• Ability to monitor Alt 3&4 or Tape

Headphone Monitoring

• Important to calibrate headphone volume for your listening level

• 0 tone should be slightly too loud• Dialogue should be comfy• Listen TOO LOUD and you will record

very low!• Listen TOO LOW and you will record

TOO HIGH and distorted!

Master Gain & Meters

• Keep Master Gain fully up, and tape them there!

• Try to maintain peak dialogue around zero, and normal dialogue a little bit under.

• Okay to surge above zero for a moment, but not to hover above zero.

• Trust your ears! Ballpark levels as: too loud, just right, or too low. Simple….
