Homework Your child will bring home a class reading book Monday through Thursday. Your
child will have read this book with me and their group throughout the day. Fridays your child will bring home a poem we have been working on. Sometimes your child may not be able to read entire poem but please take time to share it with them and discus its content. Please record these in their home communication book
Basic facts- the current basic facts sheet will be pasted into your child's communication book. We work on this sheet for approximately 1 month. If your child knows these this is great. We are working on increasing our speed and accuracy rate.
Spelling- there will be more information to follow regarding this. We will start after we have finished swimming. The ‘Switched onto Spelling’ programme is used in other Syndicates further up the school, we recently started using it in Pohutakawa. It focuses on spelling patterns, sounds and word families rather than specific words. We are aiming to create a spelling conscious rather than rote learning a set of words.
Occasionally I will set home small homework tasks to be completed based around our topics.
Expectations I would like to see all children taking
responsibility for their belongings. Each child is expected to unpack and pack their own bags before and after school.
If your child is absent please advise the office before 9am.
Please check the home communication book regularly for notices.
School starts at 8.55 am, it would be fantastic to see the children ready to start at the time of the bell.
