Looking For a Security System? How to Choose a Company
That Goes Beyond the Sale
Whether you’re looking to
protect your home or business
with a security system, it is
essential not to rush any big
decisions, (such as what
company to give your business
to), without doing plenty of
research. Because it is your
family, your livelihood, or both
that you’re looking to protect,
you’ll no doubt want to do business with the best possible security company in
order to keep your residential or commercial property safe and sound. Here are a
few questions to ask in order to choose a high-quality, well-respected security
system company that goes beyond the sale for you and your loved ones.
1) What is the company’s reputation? In order to choose the perfect security
system for you, you must first take a look at how other consumers have
fared. Online reviews are a great way to keep up with how a company is
treating their customers. Websites such as Angie’s List and Yelp can often
give you a clear picture of how effective a company’s security systems are,
what their general price range is, and how their customer service is. It is
important to remember that one bad review out of dozens of good ones
(and vice versa) does not necessarily mean anything significant—take in all
the reviews with a grain of salt and pay attention to a majority of opinion,
not the one or two outliers.
2) Does the company have the proper credentials? This is a very important
question to ask—you should absolutely ensure the company you are looking
at is up-to-date with all necessary licenses. For example, is the company’s
monitoring station certified by the CSAA (Central Station Alarm Association)
and the UL (Underwriters Laboratory)? Check to see if the company
outsources its monitoring station or if it is owned by the company as well,

and don’t be reluctant to ask about the station’s monitoring standards and
performance.
3) Does the company have the time and resources to best serve you? Pay
close attention to all the interactions you have with any potential security
system company—do they give you the time and attentiveness you
deserve, or are you rushed into a sale before you are able to tell them what
you want?
You should look for a company that gives careful consultation and takes into
account both your security needs and your budget. Make sure you feel
comfortable with the company before you make any commitments.
