● Westminster Palace

● The Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace, in London, is where the two Houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (the House of Lords and the House of Commons) meet. The palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames.

● 10 Downing Street is the residence and office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, it is situated on Downing Street in the City of Westminster in London

● Buckingham Palace

● Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British Monarch. The palace is a setting for state occasions and royal entertaining, and a major tourist attraction. It has been a rallying point for the British people at times of national rejoicing and crisis.

● Big Ben

● The Clock Tower is the world's biggest four-faced, chiming clock. The structure is situated at the north-eastern end of the Houses of Parliament

● St Paul's Cathedral

● St Paul's Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in the City of London, and the seat of the Bishop of London. The cathedral is one of London's most visited sites

● Fleet Street

● Fleet Street is a street in London named after the River Fleet. It was the home of the British press until the 1980s.

● The term Fleet Street is also used to indicate that a journalist is a member of the generation that worked on newspapers prior to their move away from the area

● Covent Garden

● Covent Garden is a district in London. The area is dominated by shopping, street performers and entertainment facilities and contains an entrance to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, which is also widely known simply as "Covent Garden" - an opera house and major performing arts venue

● The Blackwall Tunnel is a pair of road tunnels underneath the River Thames in east London, linking the London Borough of Tower Hamlets with the London Borough of Greenwich

● The Greenwich foot tunnel is a pedestrian tunnel crossing beneath the River Thames in South East London, linking the London Borough of Greenwich in the south with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to the north

● With increasing urbanisation of London, some of the Royal Parks of London were preserved as freely accessible open space and became public parks

● One Canada Square (also known as the Canary Wharf Tower) is a skyscraper in Canary Wharf, London. It is the tallest building in England and the United Kingdom at 235.1 metres above ground

Wapping

Wapping is a place in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets

Wapping was devastated by German bombing in World War II and by the post-war closure of the docks. It remained a run-down and derelict area into the 1980s

Printing plant was nicknamed "Fortress Wapping" when sacked print workers besieged it, with round-the-clock pickets and blockades in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to prevent the move

● Limehouse Studios

● Limehouse Studios was an independently-owned television studio complex built in the South Quay Import Dock. This was located at the eastern end of Canary Wharf, opened in 1983. The building was demolished just six years later, in 1989, to make way for the massive development of Canary Wharf which now occupies the site.

LONDON DOCKLANDS

The studios were the home for the first nine series of Spitting Image from 1984 to 1989 and the first series of Whose Line Is It Anyway? in 1989.

● The London Dockland Arena was an indoor arena and exhibition centre on the Isle of Dogs in London

● The London Arena was demolished in June 2006 and is set to be replaced by a mainly residential development.

● Butler's Wharf

● Butler's Wharf is an area on the south bank of the river Thames just east of London's Tower Bridge

● The main thoroughfare through the area is the historic and picturesque street Shad Thames

Beckton

Beckton is a place in the London Borough of Newham

Situated north and east of the Royal Docks, the area was formerly heavily industrialised, and was the location of Beckton Gas Works

In more recent times, industry has left the area, leaving huge areas of brownfield land, and Beckton has been redeveloped as part of the Docklands project. It now comprises mainly housing and several out-of-town shopping centres

St Katherine's Docks

St Katharine's Docks, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, were one of the commercial docks serving London, on the north side of the river Thames just east (downstream) of the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.

They were part of the Port of London, in the area now known as the Docklands, and are now a popular housing and leisure complex

● Silvertown

● Silvertown is an industrialised district in the London Borough of Newham dominated by the Tate & Lyle sugar refinery

● The area has been transformed since the 1970s by the construction of the Thames Barrier, an adjacent park, new housing areas and the London City Airport

● City Airport

● London City Airport is a single-runway airport, principally serving the financial districts of London. It is located on a former Docklands site, in the London Borough of Newham in East London

Isle of Dogs

The Isle of Dogs is a former island in the East End of London that is surrounded on three sides (east, south and west) by one of the largest meanders in the River Thames.

It was the site of the highest concentration of council housing in England, but is now best known as the location of the prestigious Canary Wharf office complex

Heron Quays

Heron Quays forms part of the Canary Wharf area the Docklands, East London. Three skyscrapers dominate the area: 25 Bank Street, 40 Bank Street and 10 Upper Bank Street.

● Poplar

● Poplar is an area of the East End of London in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets

● During the development of the Isle of Dogs the street signs pointed to the new development (by the London Docklands Development Corporation), and Poplar was lost for a decade or more

● Docklands Light Railway

● The Docklands Light Railway is a light rail system serving the redeveloped Docklands area of East London. It opened on August 31, 1987. DLR track and trains are not compatible with those of London Underground, but the DLR is shown on the London Underground Tube map.

● The trains are computer-controlled and normally have no driver

Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf is a large business and shopping development in London, located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, centred on the old West India Docks in the London Docklands

Canary Wharf is built on the site of the old West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs. From 1802 to 1980, the area was one of the busiest docks in the world

During WWII, the docks area was bombed heavily and nearly all the original warehouses were destroyed or badly damaged. The port industry began to decline

● The Millennium Dome, is the original name of a large dome-shaped building, originally used to house the Millennium Experience, a major exhibition celebrating the beginning of the third millennium. The project and exhibition was the subject of considerable political controversy as it failed to attract the number of visitors anticipated, leading to recurring financial problems

● The O2 arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena located at the

centre of The O2, a large entertainment complex on the

Rotherhithe – Southwark

Rotherhithe is a district of central south-east London in the London Borough of Southwark. It is located on a peninsula on the south bank of the Thames, facing Wapping and the Isle of Dogs on the north bank, and is a part of the Docklands area

Because much of the former Surrey Docks had strong trade links to Scandinavia and the Baltic region the area is still home to a thriving Scandinavian community - Rotherhithe is home to a Norwegian, a Finnish and a Swedish church.

● Wimbledon

● Wimbledon is a suburb of London, part of the London Borough of Merton

● Wimbledon's attraction remains its combination of convenient access to central London with the benefit of plentiful recreational facilities. Strong demand for homes, especially the larger properties in the Wimbledon Village and Wimbledon Park areas, has seen prices increase to amongst the highest in the outer London area

● Northwood

● Northwood is a suburb of London in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

● Northwood is the home to Northwood Headquarters, which is the location of the British Armed Forces Permanent Joint Headquarters for planning and controlling overseas military operations.

Hendon

Hendon is a London suburban development

Hendon’s claim to fame is in flying and Hendon Aerodrome is now the RAF Museum.

Harrow

Harrow is a town in the London Borough of Harrow, North West London

Harrow features a moderately large shopping area in the town centre.

● Golders Green

● Golders Green is an area in the London Borough of Barnet in London, England. Although having some earlier existence, it is essentially a 19th-century suburban development

● Golders Green also has a sizeable Japanese, Polish and Korean population

● Enfield

● The London Borough of Enfield is the most northerly London borough and forms part of Outer London

● Enfield used to be a small market town on the edge of the forest about a day's travel north of London. As Greater London has grown, Enfield has become a residential suburb, with fast transport links into central London.

Borehamwood is a town in southern Hertfordshire, situated 16 miles north of London. It is part of the borough of Hertsmere within the London commuter belt

Dartford is the principal town in the borough of Dartford. It is situated in the northwest corner of Kent, England, 16 miles east south-east of central London.
