London's National Gallery - Museum in London, with more than 2000 samples of Western European painting XIII -

beginning of XX century. The fifth most visited museum in the world. Is the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. Pictures in

the gallery are exhibited in chronological order.

The gallery is open 9 April 1839. Sometimes considered the founding date of May 1824, when it was purchased by a

collection of 38 paintings Angershteyna, which served as the nucleus of future galleries. In 1824 the government decided

to buy a collection of banker Angershteyna five landscapes by Claude Lorrain, Sebastiano del Piombo painting "The Raising of Lazarus," painting "Venus and Adonis" Titian, "The Rape of

the Sabine Women" by Rubens, Hogarth's series "Fashion Marriage," a portrait of Admiral Heathfield brush Reynolds

"Village Festival" Wilkie.

Paintings were exhibited at the Pall Mall Street at number 100. April 2, 1824 the Parliament decided to allocate for this purpose 57 thousand pounds with three thousand pounds for

the first picture needs. Then George Beaumont joins new collection of paintings: landscapes Canaletto "House

stonemason" composition West "Orestes and Pylades," Wilkie "blind fiddler," Rubens' Landscape with Castle Walls. "The

number of pictures to 54.

In 1831 a large number of enlarged gallery of paintings bequeathed collector Holwell-Carr("St.

George" Tintoretto, "Holy Family" by Titian, "Holy Family" by Andrea del Sarto,"Bathing in the creek woman" Rembrandt). In 1831 there

were 105 in the gallery of pictures.

Height Galleries caused a need for a specific room . In 1831 began the construction of the building by architect Wilkins on the north side of Trafalgar Square . In 1838 the gallery was

opened to the public.In 1836 was published the first catalog of all the congregation

in two volumes, which were given engraved playing all 114 pictures with a detailed description of each of them .

In 1838 under the will of Lord Farnbru gallery replenished paintings such as " Evening " by Rubens , " Landscape with the sun ," " Landscape with a Castle Wall ", " Watering ", " The cart , riding on the market " Gainsborough, "Grain Field" Constable.

In 1847 Robert Veron presented Gallery 156 paintings by English artists . In 1851 after the death of artist Joseph William Turner

Mallorda his legacy passed 300 of his paintings and 19,000 drawings and watercolors . In 1857, acquired a collection of

Lombardi - Baldi (paintings by Duccio , Margarito of Arezzo, Paolo Uccello ) .

In 1869 the gallery has received five new halls .In 1875 the gallery to complete your collection of 94 paintings by Wynn Ellis, which he bequeathed to the National Gallery . Thus

number of paintings in the gallery has reached thousands .In 1876 was built the east wing of the gallery.

In 1884, were bought by " Ansidei Madonna " by Raphael and " Equestrian Portrait of Charles I» Van Dyck
