Post-Production skills For post-production I have used Adobe Photoshop CS5. Photoshop is a software for image editing software that is developed and manufactured by Adobe Systems Inc. The reason why I used Photoshop to edit my photos and my magazine overall is because it allows me to manipulate, crop, resize, and correct colour on digital photos.

Post-Production skills Here are the list of tools that I have used in Photoshop to create my magazine with definitions why I have used them:

Tool PurposeMove Tool (V) Move tool is where you can move things usually use it to move a Layer around

after it has been placed.Magic Wand Tool

(W) I use magic wand tool to select a range of colours. It select the block of colour, or transparency, based on wherever you click.

Crop Tool (C) With the crop tool it crops your image to the size of a box also takes off unnecessary background details that you do not really need. However, any information on the outside of the box is not permanently gone, you can still undo.

Clone Stamp Tool (S)

Clone stamp tool copies the information from the first selected area to the second.

Erase Tool (E) With the erase tool it erases whatever information wherever you click and drag it. If you’re on a Layer, it will erase the information transparent. If you are on the background layer, it erases with whatever secondary colour you have selected.

Horizontal Type Tool (T)

Horizontal Type Tool is where you are able to type. Also you can click and drag to make a bounding box of where your text/type goes.

Pen Tool (P) The ‘Pen Tool’ is for creating paths, in which you would use the Path Selection Tool to select the path. Paths can be used in a few different ways, mostly to create clipping paths, or to create selections. If you click and drag, it will change the shape of your path, allowing you to bend and shape the path for accurate selections and such.

Rectangle Tool (U)

The ‘Rectangle Tool’ draws a Shape Layer in the form of a rectangle. It fills the rectangle with whatever foreground colour you have selected.

Safe working practices Crop and remove unwanted areas from the image

The reason why I used the crop tool is to remove unwanted areas from the image and to be able to improve the framing and heighten subject matter or change aspect ratio.

Wrapping text around

image(s)/objects using the ‘Pen Tool’

(P)

The wrapping text around images(s)/objects using the ‘Pen Tool’ (P) is used in the creation of smooth-edge selections. Also the ‘Pen Tool’ creates paths that can be converted into selections that in turn can be used to extract or mask groups of pixels

Selection Tool The ‘Selection Tool’ is used to smooth the process of making selections of shapes, colours, and objects inside of Photoshop, and positioning them in the working image area.

Quick Mask tool With the ‘Quick Mass tool’ is allows me to edit selection with any painting tools.

Font style In my magazine I have used that consistency of using the same font styles such as with the masthead I did not only use it for that but I also used it for my title, brand identity in my double page spread.

Ruler tool The ‘Ruler tool’ helps me position images or elements precisely. Moreover, it calculates the distance between any two points in the workspace.

ColourI maintained the “house style” of the magazine by using the ‘eye dropper’ (I) tool to capture the colour and is save in my swatches. The eye dropper tool is used to pick up a colour value from the canvas. Moreover, the eye dropper tool has a single option which allows you to pick up the exact colour or an average of the colours around it.

Font(s) The website that was used to gather the font styles needed was ‘dafont’ (source: http://www.dafont.com/) is where verities of font styles to choose from such as fancy, foreign look, techno, bitmap, gothic, basic etc. I was inspired to use this from a music magazine called ‘Mojo magazine’. I applied certain font styles in my masthead and web address for my front cover. Moreover, I have used the font style again for my title, brand identity, “Exclusive”, “Key Facts”, “Out 22nd December 2014”, “Available to download”, Web Address, Caption, “Photography”, “Editor” in my double page spread.

Front CoverAs you can see I

have included my first draft to see the comparison

with my final piece. I have adjusted the

alignments and making sure that all the cover lines and headlines are all line. Moreover,

with the main image I have

made the artist brighter to make him stand out. Furthermore, I

have stick into the colour scheme

such as blue, pink and

black.

Double Page Spread

With my double page spread, I have done exactly the same as my front cover slide such as comparing my first draft of my double page spread to my final piece. As you can see from

the images that I have changed the colours that I used from my first to my final. The reason why I have changed this is that I want to stick with the colour scheme to portray my understanding into this project and to make it easier for my target audience to adapt to my

magazine by sticking to one colour schemes rather than changing it and surprises them.

ConclusionIn conclusion, LO4 is all about being able to edit material to produce a final print media product. So to be able to do this I have to produced a post-production skills, for example, what software did I use to create my front cover and double page spread, the tools that I used and construct an evidence page of where I have put them also why I have used them. Moreover, sourcing where I have found the element such as fonts. Lastly, making sure that Mr. Crafts has signed a witness statement authoring the finalization of Unit 14.
