Definition of language loss

Dissolution is when speakers of a language present deficit

in their language production or is no longer in use.

Aphasia is the inability to produce or comprehend speech, as a result of brain

damage.

There are many different types of aphasia, but the classic types are Broca’s

aphasia and Wernicke’s aphasia.

Broca’s aphasia

Wernicke’s aphasia

Also called motor aphasia, the inability to

produce words or speak fluently as a

result of damage to Broca’s area.

Also called sensory aphasia, the

inability to comprehend speech or

written language as a result of damage

to Wernicke’s area.

but does not affect

intelligence.

Stuttering:- is a communication disorder in which the flow of speech is broken

by repetitions. E.g "W- W- W- Where are you going?"

Autism:- is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way a person

communicates and relates to people around them. Autism appears within the

first three years of life. Most people with autism have limited interests, strange

eating, sleeping behaviors or tendency to do things to hurt themselves, such

as banging their heads or biting their hands.
