What do we do?

Page 3: Let's Learn

We design learning experiences

Page 4: Let's Learn

Turning boring classrooms……

Page 5: Let's Learn

Into labs for discovery

Page 6: Let's Learn

We want our students to gain one key insight...

Page 7: Let's Learn

The world is malleable

And they can reshape it

Provided they gain the right skills

Page 8: Let's Learn

But what are the right skills?

Page 9: Let's Learn

We think there are 3 important skills

Page 10: Let's Learn

Let's talk about STEAM

Page 11: Let's Learn

Good grades used to be the ticket to success...

...but the 21st Century demands innovation

Page 12: Let's Learn

Innovation is rearranging and connecting dots across disciplines...

Page 13: Let's Learn

That is why we don't teach Just ScienceJust ComputingJust ArtJust Mathematics

Page 14: Let's Learn

Instead we encourage interdisciplinary thinking

Page 15: Let's Learn

We create challenges that run on STEAM

Page 16: Let's Learn

Here's one challenge we give our students:

Build a musical instrument

Page 17: Let's Learn

That takes STEAM

Page 18: Let's Learn

Science - vibration, resonance, amplitude, frequency

Technology - frequency measuring apps, cutting tools

Engineering - choose the right material, precision in cutting

Arts - music theory, notes, performance

Mathematics - calculate frequency-wavelength relations

Page 19: Let's Learn

Let's talk about Making

Page 20: Let's Learn

Knowledge is power only when you know how to use it

Page 21: Let's Learn

A simple crowbar turns the abstraction of geometry into a usable simple machine.

Page 22: Let's Learn

But how do you assess if somebody is learning how to use knowledge?

Page 23: Let's Learn

We don't have exams. We don't issue grades.

Page 24: Let's Learn

We assess our students through the projects they make.

Page 25: Let's Learn

How do you prepare students for jobs that don't yet exist?

To use technology that does not yet exist?

For a future that does not yet exist?

Page 26: Let's Learn

We give them the skills to invent the future

Page 27: Let's Learn

...and that means training them in

Page 28: Let's Learn

which includes

IMPROVE

Page 30: Let's Learn

A thinking process that lets you create something from nothing

Page 31: Let's Learn
