Summarizing, paraphrasing and direct quotes (write this down)• Summary: short overall picture of an

author’s ideas. Your words.• Paraphrase: longer than a summary.

May go through things in the same order as an author. Generally your words.

• Direct quote: short phase or “apt words” (like lingaculture). Uses “quotation marks.” Word-for-word from another author.
