Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Page 9: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Reduce production time

Page 10: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Reduce production time

• No need to reshoot the same action from different angles

• Less starting & stopping recording

• No need to relight the set from different angles

Page 11: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Reduce editing time

Vital for programmes that will be broadcast

shortly after RX

Page 12: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

The programme is edited together as it is

recorded live on the vision mixer, often

cutting out the need for post-production

completely.

Page 13: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Saving time can mean saving money (however this isn’t always the case with multicamera)

Page 14: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

To keep our viewers engaged & excited

Page 15: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

To keep our viewers engaged

Watching an event from just 1 shot is boring.

Shooting it from multiple angles is more visually interesting, it creates pace, intrigue and keeps

the viewers engaged.

Page 16: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Greater coverage of the action

Page 17: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Greater coverage of the action

With live events you only have 1 chance at capturing the event.

When shooting in a multi-camera format each of the cameras can each follow a different part of the action, helping to form a coherent narrative of events unfolding, meaning nothing is missed.

Page 18: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Greater coverage of the action

Imagine if you had to film the olympics opening ceremony single camera, with just one camera recording

the whole panorama of events

Page 19: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Capturing events from a wider variety of angles also allows us to capture different subjects actions / reactions,

building an emotional connection with the viewer and helping to create meaning in our audiences minds

Page 20: Lesson 1 - an introduction to multicamera filming techniques

Why might we need to cover multiple angles?

Cutting to different angles can also signify a change in tone in multicamera shows by showing the subjects emotions close up.

• Evaluate why you think the programme was shot in multi-camera.

• How did the director use multiple angles for the shows benefit?

• How would it have been different if it was shot using a single camera format?
