MOTION
Citation preview
MOTIONA body is said to be in motion if it changes its position with respect to a reference point
Learning objectives
Students will be able to
• Define motion
• Define distance
• Define displacement
WARM UP
Watching this video,Calculate UssainBolt’s speed at London Olympics
Vector Quantities and scalar quantities
Scalars- quantities which has only magnitude
Eg.Time,density,mass,length
Vectors- quantities which has magnitude and direction.
Eg.force,velocity
Distance and displacement
Distance covered is the actual length of the path covered by the body. It is a scalar.
Displacement is the shortest distance between the initial and final position of the body. It is a vector.
CONTINOUS ASSESSMENT
1.What are vector quantities? Give examples.
2.What are scalar quantities? Give examples
3.An athlete running with constant speed along a circular track of radius 20m takes 50 seconds to complete one round . What is his distance and displacement at the end of
a) 50 seconds b) 25seconds
4.If a body , which is in motion returns to its original position ,what is its displacement?
Final Assessment
• Define motion
• Define distance covered.
• Define displacement of a body.
• Distinguish between Distance and displacement
