CWDC works to improve the livesof children, young people and families by:
> ensuring people working with children have the best possible training, qualifications, support and advice;
and
> helping children’s organisations and services work together so the child is at the centre of services.
What do we mean by Integrated Working?
….. everyone supporting children and young people working together effectively to put the child at the centre, meet their needs and improve their lives.
CWDC & DCSF 2007
To recap…….
> October 2006 DCSF transferred responsibility for the implementation, not policy, from a workforce perspective, of the:• Common Assessment Framework• Lead Professional Role• Information Sharing (not legal aspect)• Multi agency working• Championing Children
Political context
> Creation of a new department (DCSF)
> Children’s Plan
> Children’s Workforce Strategy Action Plan

Where next ……………
> Response to listening to;• what you are telling us• what young people are asking for
> How we make the move from the current “Islands” of integrated working to a whole system change
> Recognising that “change” is fundamentally about people and practice not just common structures and processes
Workforce reform….
> Recognising that Integrated working isn’t “separate” but an integral part of reforming the young people’s workforce
> What we need is a step change in moving to workforce reform....
Integrated working – the barriers
> Lack of inter-professional trust
> Poor communication
> Lack of accessible services
Integrated working - lessons so far
> IW strongest where history of partnership working
> IW usually piloted first
> Important to engage all parts of children’s workforce
Key messages..1
> IW is massive cultural change
> IW more effective with YP participation
> Private sector to be included in partnerships and training (esp Early Yrs)
> 3rd sector can be invaluable
Key messages..2
> Strategic direction and leadership is crucial to engage whole service
> …then “get on with it”
> Continued support after training
> Best training material was practical
> LP best embraced as change of focus rather than ‘add-on’
CWDC next actions
