Has your greatest fear ever come true?

Once an unhappy young man came to an old master and told he had a very sad life and asked for a solution.

The old Master instructed the unhappy young man to put a handful of salt in a glass of water and then to drink it.

“How does it taste?” – The Master asked.

“Terrible.” – spat the apprentice.

The Master chuckled and then asked the young man to take another handful of salt and put it in the lake. The two walked in silence to the nearby lake and when the apprentice swirled his

handful of salt into the lake.

The old man said, “Now drink from the lake.”

As the water dripped down the young man’s chin, the Master asked, “How does it taste?”

“Good!” – remarked the apprentice.

“Do you taste the salt?” – asked the Master.

“No.” – said the young man.

The Master sat beside this troubled young man, took his hands, and said, “The pain of life is pure salt; no more, no less. The amount

of pain in life remains the same, exactly the same. But the amount we taste the ‘pain’ depends on the container we put it into. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things.

Stop being a glass. Become a lake.”

DECISION MAKING

Majority of us waste a lot of time because of indecision state. We

are not able to decide. Decide means de-cide. Eliminating all other options and sticking to one is called decision. Whenever we have options and we are asked to choose one. It leads to confusion and we are not able to decide. Until we take action we haven’t truly decided.

Whenever we take any decision there is always a probability that it can go wrong. There is no error proof decision making

process which can ensure only right decisions. If we had all the information required to take any decision then it will not be called a decision. It will be a foregone conclusion.

The biggest challenge we face in decision making is how to filter our emotions from logic. As you must have also experienced that majority of our decisions are emotional decisions which are later on justified with facts. I am still to come up with any idea as to how not to get emotional but one thing I can tell you and that is use some tools like Six Thinking Hats, Paired Comparison Method

before taking a decision. These tools help us to remain rational as much as we can.

Why do we fill our home with junk? Why do we so passionately collect

stamps, watches, rare piece of art and artifacts? We get so attached to those collected things and junks that we struggle a lot to part with them.

The reason is endowment effect. Richard Thaler did an interesting experiment: he distributed coffee mugs to half of the students and told them they could either take the mug home or sell it at a price of their choice.

He asked the other half of the stu-dents, how much they were will-ing to pay for a coffee mug like

that. What Richard did here is, he created a market where fifty per cent students were buyer and the other half were seller. Expectation was at least fifty per cent of the buyer group students would buy those mugs. But it did not happen that way, very few students were willing to buy.

The reason is the average owner of the mug was not ready to sell the mug below $5.25 and the av-erage buyer would not pay more than $2.25 for a mug.

This explains our irrational at-tachment to things where we tend to overestimate the value of ev-erything even if they are junk.

So ask yourself: are you attached to some old but negative friends, some disabling habits? Only be-cause you are attached does not mean that you operate from a closed mind. Think rationally and get rid of those. Think there must be some better way. Simplify your life.

A disappointed salesman of Cold drink company returns from his Middle East assignment. A friend asked, “Why weren’t you suc-cessful with the Arabs?”

The salesman explained, “When I got posted in the Middle East, I was very confident that I will make a good sales pitch as Cold drink company is virtually un-known there. But, I had a problem I didn’t know how to speak Ara-bic. So, I planned to convey the message through 3 posters…

First poster, a man crawling through the hot desert sand… to-tally exhausted and panting.

Second, the man is drinking our Cold drink and

Third, our man is now totally re-freshed.

Then these posters were pasted all over the place”

“That should have worked,” said the friend.

The salesman replied, “Well, not only did I not speak Arabic, I also didn’t realize that Arabs read from right to left…”

Commitment - Depth of a character and Quality of your commitment

are always mapped the way you initiate and complete things... May it be a conversation or a task, it doesn’t matter how well you started but it does matter how well you concluded it! ...

“It’s human to fail, but never abandon your commitment to conclude

well”! (By Paremvir)

A quite look around us or even inside within will help to understand a

wonderful fact of life... why do people loose their credibility?? The answer though very simple but is rarely acknowledged and it is one’s commitment!

We live in an i n t e r d e p e n d e n t world often called

as family, society, team or that matter organization wherein we are always interconnected and supported by each other in pursuit of happiness and success!

This is world is also called being in a relationship and relationships come

with roles and responsibilities, wherein like yours, everyone else’s happiness is directly linked to your timely actions or

support! This scenario brings us to situations wherein we promise things that we will take care of... this promise is commitment that we are talking about... we can also define commitment as a positive energy / orientation / focus leading to deployment of available resources at hand to accomplish a desired objective / goal... as strong and

Consistent this positive energy flow is so are the possibilities of success

to achieve the desired objective. To feel this point better let me take you to those moment when you were successful against all odds, if you dive deep to understand the reason it was your commitment indeed!

Now how does it demonstrate your character, very simple!

people when they depend on us for their success they are always cautions and observant as their happiness is also at stake, thus if we display poor commitment levels by way of poor workmanship, excuse orientation, flight from the scene, low energy or disinterested forced efforts it actually and naturally triggers a sense of desertion in them and no living being appreciates such behaviour

which lets them down.

Mostly relationships slowly die a unfortunate end just

because of this one factor, thus don’t commit if you are not interested or ready as yet, don’t start things just for the sake of it, don’t pretend if you don’t have it in you to complete !The beautiful part of this subject is people are ready to accept happily a failure if you gave your best committed efforts, thus give it your best always!

One of the most fun filled and enjoyable acts everyone is following these days. You smile - a selfie smiles, you cry - a selfie cries, you pout a selfie pouts , giving you back something for forever, exactly of what you have given it for few seconds. Have you ever thought that if your mobile allows you to take a selfie of your soul, of your mind or of your heart, would you like to post it?
