Lisa Brady, one of my favorite school superintendents, decided not to wait for the conversation to start on its own.She went into her community in Dobbs Ferry, NewYork, and invited parents into a book study of TonyWagners The Global Achievement Gap.Over a six-month period, shewent to parent meetings, coffees, and other informal gatherings tolisten to what the parentsreading the book had to sayabout it. They told her: We haveto change. 101. http://goo.gl/vlT09 102. http://paper.li/ECSD36/@EMSCarlson 103. Easter Eggs 104. Easter Eggs 105. Easter Eggs 106. Easter Eggs 107. Easter Eggs 108. Thanks, Lisa, for filling us in on the details of DFteachers professional development. We are gratefulfor the amazing teachers our daughter hasencountered so far at Springhurst. I am all forwhatever we as a district can do to invest in thelearning of this most precious resource.Im looking forward to seeing you again this week atthe Friday morning book chat.Happy holidays!Greta 119. Dear Dr. Brady -I do understand the importance of teacherdevelopment days, but why are they counted asour childrens school days? I believe that for ourteachers annual pay levels some summer schoolhours (teachers and/or students) would not be outof line. What are the impediments to that? How do we start a review and evaluation of theeffectiveness of Early Dismissal days? This daysare some of the most disruptive days my childrenhave.Thank you.Sandra Merrow 120. Sandra,Thanks for your feedback and insights. Early Dismissal Daysdo count toward student attendance days and teacher PD ishandled pretty much the same way in most school districts. We have quite a lot of summer professional developmentthat occurs every summer. One of the challenges is that notall teachers can necessarily be here at the same time in thesummer which limits the work that can be done bydepartment or grade level teams. There is so much thatneeds to be done right now because of the new APPRrequirements that necessitates teachers having time to worktogether on assessments, rubrics and planning. We really dotry to do the best that we can with the limited time we have.Dr. Brady 121. Positive Deviantshttp://www.ickr.com/photos/ssmarta/5657989204/ 122. http://plpnetwork.com/connectedkids/ 123.
