NEWTON COUNTY BELIEF STATEMENT

Educational excellence is the primary goal of the

Newton County Schools so that graduates can think

critically, solve problems, make good decisions and

succeed in the workplace;

Schools should provide a leadership role in the

development of a balanced educational experience,

socialization, opportunity for personal, physical and

mental fitness, and basic living skills.

AHS: MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to promote personal and academic

excellence in our students. We will work together with

our students’ parents and the community to prepare

our students to be successful in school and in their

careers, to enable students to become life-long

learners, and to equip them to have fulfilling lives.”

MEDIA CENTER MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the library media program is to ensure

that students and staff are effective users of ideas

and information.

This mission is accomplished by:

a: providing intellectual and physical access to

materials in all formats;

b: providing instruction to foster competence and

stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using

information and ideas;

c: working with other educators to design learning

strategies to meet the needs of individual students

Page 6: LBrooks Facilities Plan

The media center is in the center of the school, which

is appropriate because it serves as the information

center or hub of the school. We believe in operating

on a flexible schedule for students and teachers. The

media center strives to fulfill curricular needs by

providing resources to the faculty and students and

by collaborating with teachers. We also believe in

making the media center a warm, inviting

environment that makes anyone who enters feel

welcome and encourages the use of information for

school-related assignments as well as for pleasure.

MEDIA CENTER LOCATION

The Media Center is located in the middle of the

school next to what is called the commons. It is a

central location at the intersection of 5 hallways.

The Media Center is very accessible to 10th-12th

grade students, however, because the 9th grade

academy was just built, it is not convenient for 9th

grade students.

On each of the intersecting hallways there is a

computer lab. Each lab has 35 computers in it.

Problem: Blind spots due to the height of the stacks.

Suggestion(s) for Improvement:

• Reorganize the stacks so that there are none in the middle of the library floor.

• I would also move the circulation desk to the middle of the media center.

Problem: According to the survey, the media center is very uninviting.

Suggestions for Improvement:

• New flooring

• Wall murals: AP Art Students painted these two murals on the walls of the school. They could be used to paint murals in the library as well.
