By Alyssa LaQuay

Technology Integration Rationale

Fractions are a vital part of our everyday lives.Whether you are baking, prepping for a party, determining how much pie you can eat withoutfeeling guilty, or dividing up the check for dinner, fractions always seem to pop up where you leastexpect them.

But sometimes, is it really hard to figure outhow to halve a recipe? Or maybe youstruggle to tip correctly because 1/5 of thebill sounds a bit pricey and who knows howto do that?

Rationale

ContinuedTechnology gives students a visual representation and can illustratehands on fraction knowledge such as measuring ingredients to makea cake. Having that visualization will help when they put their pencilsto the paper to figure out problems. Before you know it they’ll beasking if they can calculate the tip for you. Watching videos aboutwhere fractions can be applied will open up their eyes to the factthat everything is a fraction, not just the homework in their mathclasses.

It becomes important to know how we add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions because it relates to them and their interests.
