Adults should not pressure on the child to speak

correctly as this may make the problem worse

Parents should be patient and praise and encourage the

child who is stammering

The child needs to be stimulated by sound and

speech

Parent and carers need to providing books from an early age so the child can

develop its reading skills and be encouraged

First book should have large, colourful picture of

everyday objects to attract the baby’s attention

Children of all ages enjoys being read to and parents

or carers should read a story in the child’s regular

bedtime routine

A variety of books should always be available so that the child can select a book for pleasure, visit the local library with the child
